Hi I am new to this forum so not sure how it works but here goes!! Have had ulcerative colitis for a long long time...but still can't seem to function properly when I get flare ups...Even after all this time...I panic when I see blood...and I just get so depressed...my whole body seems out of balance..no appetite ...forcing food down....and constant lethargy. I was on colifoam for years...managed to come off it...but this recent flare up is so bad am having to take Prednisolone...( don't think you can get colifoam anymore)...also I am anaemic ...Please let me know I am not alone!!! No my friend, not alone. Colitis is a real f**ker for the body and mind!
I often think the mental knock on is worse than the condition itself.

I agree...and when you are relatively normal and in remission...life is so much easier...you feel you can eat...go anywhere...have the energy to exercise...and to socialise...when you have a flare up, apart from the panic of seeing blood ( which even after all this time I cannot come to terms with!!! )....I don't know about you but I have this cloud over me of impending doom...I don't want to see anyone or go anywhere. It's good to know there are other people out there...feeling the same. Bea

Cheers mate. I've been on Azathiprine for 11 months and counting (150mg) and I'm also currently on 40mg Pred but the flare up seems to be easing now, so hopefully I can start lowering the dose soon

Hey Bea, keep your chin up. There are a lot of sufferers on here so there's a lot of support and a wealth of knowledge on here for you to make use of. Have a good one!

I have always been on colifoam enemas...but they are difficult to get hold of apparently ...In my recent flare up ( which is still going on!) I have been prescribed Predisolone enemas....Whilst the diarrhea is not as bad...it does not seem to be getting the bleeding under control...which means that I am constantly anaemic...and I feel really weak most of the time...Has anyone else had the same problem with Prednisolone or should I just give it more time? I have been using them twice a day for a week.

It could be a case of it needing more time to kick in but it does depend how far up the inflammation is as well, rectal foam enemas obviously has a limited range, if the inflammation is a lot higher up out of reach of the enema then it won't do anything for you. The only thing that has ever worked for me during a flare up is pred steroids, as harsh as these things are to take, I would much rather the sides of this than be housebound and running to the toilet ever 5 mins!

I have decided to come off the Prednisolone enemas...I think they were making me worse...Has anyone had any success with them? And how do they differ from colifoam? I took colifoam for years and gradually weaned myself off them about 3 years ago....So I am back to my positive thinking...and tomorrow I am going to see a Nutrionalist about my anaemia!!

I've not had any success with any foam enema - Pred did nothing for me and asacol made me worse. never heard of colifoam sorry. The only thing that works for me is the pred steroids, currently tappering down at the mo and on 30mg - my back and shoulders are plastered with spots at the mo
