Well guys, all done - just got back. After opting for sedation this time I wish I'd done it LAST time. Whole thing was a piece of p1ss bar a couple of tight bends. Also, last time I was really bloated but 5 mins after being presented with nice black coffee and some digestives I felt the urge to go - sat on the toilet and WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSHHH... the majority of it cleared, but still a bit bloaty but not in pain. So I'm at home feeling a little spinny from the sedative but enjoying another coffee with some Danish pastries! The result: Bar some minimal inflammation at the beginning, the mass of it is near the end at the caecum so I'm glad I had it done again, as last time he didn't go that far and it explains the symptoms. If I have to have it done again I'll be wiser - my bowels were easily cleared out 14 hours before the procedure so next time I'll only fast for 14.

Good to hear it went well Groovemeister I've had the flexi scope a few times and the last one back in Jan of last year was really uncomfortable, bordering on painful but I'm due a colonoscapy soon as my new consultant wants to map out the entire bowel region. Obviously a colonoscapy goes further into the nether regions than the flexi but is that the only difference between them or is there more? I had a barium meal last Thursday and it was bloody horrible, tube through the nose, lots of bleeding, vomited twice, swallowing was a pain in the ar$e because you could feel it press on the tube - not nice, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.........

ive had disease for 8 years and tbh treated the disease with no real seriousness. have had few flare up and obviously my toilet habbits hav enever been normal. but ive always controlled it wit pentesa and on bad occasions pred it maybe 6 times over the 8 years!! but my silly life style and partyin has lead me to end up in hospital and feeling the worse i ever felt in my life. thought i was gonna die honest!! think that was maybe due to dehydration!! been on loads of drips but had my first sort of semi formed dump today which made me happy(sad i know but im sure you can understand) got to wait over weekend now to see specialist. hope my condition doesnt worsen and this is just on off, dont think i cud cope with that again. anyway just thought id say im another sufferer. you guys seem to know alot more about it and offer more alternatives than any docs iver spoken to. just say take these drugs and dont worry eat what you like. also theres got to be a link with bodybuildin lifestyle and stomach problems all my mates have bad stomachs and most of them train!

ORIGINAL: b0x I think the thought of what you put in your mouth having nothing to do with how your body reacts to the part of you which processes what you put in your mouth is a bit silly. Personally I follow a diet called specific carbohydrate diet, though it's very close to a paelo / caveman diet which is also meant to be good for colitis sufferers. I never preach but i will say (as you asked) I believe the diet helps and i feel healthier on it. FWIW i was flaring every 3-6 months off the diet. Sitting here now, my last flare was 15months ago. Hey Box, with the caveman diet, are we talking mostly protein and fat, little in the way of carbs, just some fruit and berries and stuff, like pre-farming and agriculture?? Cheers

If you're not suffering from abdominal pain (other than a bit of colic from the fruit), you're not having a flare-up. Try reducing the fruit intake and see what happens. If your food intake has suddenly increased, it may take a while for your stomach and intestines to become accustomed to it.

efs ???? Do you mean ephedrine? I find Ephedrine a great help with diarrhea, it seems to help slow things down and solidify things. Thinks it's something to do with higher seretonin levels lowering gastro intestinal secretions....Obviously not something you can do long term but I use them now and again

Me & My Brother both have UC. Mine only effects the lower 5% of the colon & despite some bleeding I have never been aneamic (blood tests). I can remember seeing blood on my **** when I was 10. I am now 30. My dad re-calls getting blood on stool also. My brother has it really bad. He is on medicine all the time & has been hospitilised a couple of times with blood transfusions. I think HEAVY eating makes things worse for me. Whenever I get loose stool I switch to a cutting diet - this calms things down or me (thats why, pls comment on my cutting diet on this forum, i think im having too much whey - thanx).

Thanks Richyd. I do have some Eff/Caff tabs left and I'm looking to cut for the next 4-8 weeks but I do remember having a flair up myself not long after I was taking them - not that I ever megadosed, only took 32mg eph 200mg caffeine 2 x a day). Thought it might have been the caffeine that caused the upset. Ah well, looks like I'm going to have to rely on hard work to shift the pudge Cheers mate

You may get away with eating oats that are uncontaminated with wheat as avenin (the gluten in oats) is better tolerated than gliadin (the gluten in wheat). What about potato, sweet potato, parsnip, carrot, beetroot, peas, beans, lentils, chickpeas, corn, rice, quinoa, buckwheat, sago, millet & amaranth as carb sources?
