I think this is the best posing routine I have seen before.

A good week of training. 140kg for 8,8, 9 (failure) was the highlight on the squats. Hamstrings are still slaughtered from the SLDLs I find it hard to get the bar up off the floor as I use a platform so am a fair distance off the floor. I find it allows a better stretch though during the movement and stops the plates hitting the floor at the bottom of the movement. Might place some plates on the floor next session and see if that helps.
Playing attention to my calves now and training them twice a week. Worked them alongside arms yesterday. First time in months that I have DOMS in my biceps. I moved them after triceps as triceps need more work and I find ow that they rarely get DOMS. I know it isn't always an indication of them being worked, but it does give me a feeling of satisfaction if they ache the next day. Stopped the EZ bar yesterday and did some sets with the dumbells controlled and measured. Then dropped the weight and did more. Did some cable work contracting all the way and holding it at the top, then some single arm Dumbell preachers. A most delightful session.

Preparing my stuff for the cycle over the next couple of weeks in between revision for my finals. Certainly an exciting time

Sheer brilliance.

Some pleasant weather lined up for this week which will make a nice change. Sadly revising so will just have to do it outside. Best of both worlds
Have back to look forward to this afternoon. Have a nice exercise I enjoy currently; wide grip pull ups to behind the neck. Feel it in the lats and is a change to the normal stuff I throw in. Switched back to underhand grip on the BB rows which I find more effective but it is always important to have variation. Have started to use straps for my final set of narrow grib cable row and find that I can not only shift more weight but I don't have to worry about my grip giving way. As a result I can hold the movement at the peak for longer and take longer in general over the movement. The DOMS I got last week from it are testament to the effectiveness of this.
Weight is just over 83kg when I last measured though I am not bothering with weight overly. Find it too variable and it is far too easy to get a misleading impression from the scales. The mirror will do for me for the time being.

Sounds like all is going well mate. I feel your pain with the revision, I've got a case study to write up in the next couple of days.

When are you planning to start the cycle?

Ah greetings son Yes it is a most unpleasant business but best to get it done properly I find. A good routine and it isn't anywhere near as bad. Cycle will be starting some time after exams. Finish on the 30th May and I imagine I will start a week or so after that. Will be able to update my journal regularly from then onwards.

Very enjoyable session in the gym working back. Creatine seems to be doing a good job and strength seems to be up on all lifts. Experimenting a little on the machine row and tried a heavier weight and a different range of motion. Felt reasonable but only feel it on my lats with a very low weight. Not sure whether to keep heavy and not worry about the burn knowing that I will be working the back or aim for a burn.
Found that using straps is very helpful now, grip has never been up to much. Underhand grip much more effective on Barbell rows as well, doing them similar to Dorian. Slightly less weight though
Chest tomorrow. I am going to pre-exhaust for the next couple of weeks. Seemed to be much more effective that way. 5 sets of flies (DB incline and cable) before moving onto DB presses, dips and machine press. Finish off with shoulders, but once I finish exams I will move them across to their own day. Can't justify going 5 times a week in the midst of exams though.

Have been very busy today revising and catching some rays outside. Cracking weather.
Chest and shoulders- do flyes on a slight incline first (22.5x10 high point) and then some cable flies very slow.
Incline chest press working up to 35kg. Dips then up to 32.5kg though without a dip belt I find I am working my triceps more than the chest. Can't lean forwards and have to concentrate on holding the weight between my thighs. Not ideal to be honest. Did Machine press with 80kg for partials which was reasonable. Then shoulder press 22.5 x8 twice then straight onto some DB side lateral raises. 3 sets of 20 with the 7.5kg.
Diet has been spot on throughout. Protein arrived today as did my products from MediSlave which is useful.

Might have to indulge in a spot of sunbathing today (with my studies of course )
No training today, just 6aside football late afternoon. Upper back is very stiff from the work on Monday and chest is starting to ache as well
Diet will be the same today as always.

I was reading something yesterday about total commitment, 100 per cent, going beyond the pain barrier by Tom Platz and it made me think; How much of this is a myth created and nurtured by the Pros to create an air of superiority, distancing themselves from the rest of us if you will. I get all my meals in 99 per cent of the time and train as hard as I can in the gym and don't understand how I can make it any better.

After all, once you have reached muscle failure, no amount of will power will you take beyond that. Does anybody else ever wonder about this?

Clearly not Legs today, not sure whether to do high volume high reps today or go nice and heavy again. Left wrist is a little sore to move which is a problem for SLDLs. Will see how I feel when under the bar.

Yes mate, I wonder about it. Once you fail, you fail. But it's got to be in all areas, Positive, Static and Negative.

What did you go for on legs?

Ah morning son. It was a reasonable session. Did 3 sets of 140 squats but some of them were not parrallel so will keep the weight the same next week and get them an inch lower for all. Lowered the weight and did two sets of close stance squats nice and slow. Didn't do SLDLs, just a few extra sets of hamstring curls and then finished with some leg curls. Not the best leg session but have slight DOMs still.
I think from the 24th, the date of the first exam, until the 30th, I will have a week of rest from the gym. Has been a few months since I last had one and want to be fully prepared for the cycle. Might adapt that priming article from UGM for one week or even go for two weeks. I do need some new gym wear though, tracksuit in particular is falling apart. Perhaps I will go for a little pair of shorts from the 80s
