Crossfit.com and gymjones.com have some really good stuff on this style of training. Anyone know how you could mix them and a bodybuilding/powerlifting style together. My main goal is still mass gain and staying leanish, but I wouldn't mind being more athletic.

I've just tried doing some burpee's as Mook's 100 sub 9mins challenge interested me. I thought I'd just see how many I could do in a minute to start with. I only managed 20 ! now this is the first time I've tried doing a burpee since ...well I cant remember when. I was breathing out of my ar*e afterwards and my legs and chest felt really pumped
Good luck with it Mook , you need to be looking over your shoulder for me just yet !

Killer aren't they mate! I've just updated my rosstraining.com journal will eventually be adding it over here when I get a chance.

As it happens Pagan tomorrow is the 'Day Of Burpee' and it deserves the capital letters!

Will go something along the lines of...

Warm up > 100 burpees (log time) > walking recovery to normal heart rate > tabata sprints + 50 burpees (log burpee time) > walk + recover > 100 burpee challenge (log time)

Going to fully hydrate myself over the course of tonight and tomorrow morning and crack it before I go to bed from night shift, if I don't post I'm dead

Oh aye and this is all in the local park so funny looks a plenty I'm sure!

So your gonna do it straight after a night shift ? what time do you finish , or have I got that wrong ?

When doing 100 reps where do you pause in the movement when resting ? do you take actually breaks or just try and work at a steady continious pace ?

Well I decided sleeping was maybe a good idea first as I was paggered from work last night. So will be off out after some scran to get it cracked.

With the 100 mate, I am rubbish at pacing myself. Usually I do 25 straight off the belt and then a 15 then 6 sets of 10. Any rest for me is usually needed after the first 25 lol and I just stand up, shake off and try and regain some composure

When I get a heart rate monitor I'll be able to train a bit more sensibly and keep in certain zones but for the time being I just listen to myself.

Right no excuses I was a **** and got scared by the routine I posted up so instead it went something like this...

50 Burpees - 4:40
Active Recovery
Tabata Sprints - 20 / 20 x 8
Active Recovery
50 Burpees - 5:27

A little disappointed in myself, need to get in a rhythm with night shifts. It does however make my 100 Burpee time 10:07 but that doesn't really count. I'll approach this next time with a bit more of a killer attitude

Right soon as I'm sober I'm after you ! joking aside I fancy trying for 50 tomorrow.

Where do you work Mook ? I've never trained after a nightshift , not even steady state cardio. I reckon your body's already fooked from being up all night.

Casino in town mate, on feet all night dealing with donkeys then had a load of admin to sort out this morning. I know I shouldn't make excuses but need to be stress free to put everything into sessions like that.

By all means go for the 4:40 mate BUT if you start thrashing me constantly I'll be using the 'times are for the individual' card

Dont think I'll gte round to the 50 tonight mate. I'm heading down the gym and if I go for the 50 I reckon that would be all I'd do so I'm gonna do some running, weights and bag work.

What would be a good way to train for the 100 burpee challenge ? how many times a week would you actually do burpees and what else would help ? I'm definately gonna give this a go for a while

Bad news for me today, the likelihood of me re-joining the Marines is looking very slim. The AFCO booked my medical / interview only for the DNR office to suspend my application until secondary medical opinion is sought. Canny gutted as I know I have next to no chance now but chin up and all that, I have a plan anyway just incase which involves MMA so training will still be centred around this

Really the best way to do get good is just to do them though very taxing on the old CV system so a standard of fitness will help. You could do away with the push up part so it's more like a squat thrust to a jump and progress to adding it every other rep or so. I use them in every conditioning session I have so for me it's around 3 times per week and usually 1 or 2 sets of max effort 50+

Here's a link to Work Capacity 101 which is a nice little circuit but very taxing and includes burpees. I'll be starting this once or twice a week when I get a medicine ball and have ordered his Infinite Intensity book.

Set mini challenges mate, maybe a fortnight of 25 burpee challenges, 3 times per week the increase to 50's, 75's and so on. I was a bit silly jumping in head first with 100's and it's a bit demoralising but no point me going backwards now

This is turning into a one man show (sorry Mook)!!

I've been forced to take a few days off from training this week due to a stomach bug picked up at the start of the week.

Back to training today however, just loaded the car up with a few bits of gear then it's off up to the hils for a little training - nothing like easing back into it gently lol

Update to follow

Osagi

Okay back on track now, eating and training back to normal, so it's full steam ahead to make up for lost time.

Details of weekend training;

Saturday (no training yesterday, apart from a 5 mile walk with the dog and my other-half it was quite a lazy day)

Brisk warmup followed by sand bag circuit - 40kg bag, max reps in one minute for each of the following exercises;

clean and overhead press (clean bag then straight into overhead press)
bent over row
bear hug squat ('hug' bag in front of chest and squat)
shoulder the bag then 'run' 200 metres

Minutes rest then repeat 2 more times (3 circuits in total)

Pushup circuit (x3)

Standard pushup x 20
Staggered hand pushups (one hand by shoulder, the other down by waist) x 15
'Close grip' push ups (thumbs touching) x 10

50 sledgehammer swings to finish (was supposed to be 100, by ~30 I was in trouble, so I adjusted the target and aimed for 40, then pushed out another 10).

Quite a tough workout, amazing how much you can lose in a week

Noticed I need to construct a new sand bag due to my old one coming to the end of it's life (it's had a good innings ). Gonna nip into town today after I go to the gym to pick up the materials, I may even photograph and document the process to show how easy it is to contruct your own sand bag, possibly the best bit of training kit you could ever own - yeah sounds like a good idea that, will see what I can do

Right, off to the gym shortly, back to my usual routine, bench, rows and squats, in an energetic mood this morning so should be a good 'un

Osagi

Well Pagan just done the post-night shift workout, horrible but sort of refreshing though I'm wide awake now so will take ages to get to sleeps.

This was all done wearing a backpack weighing about 20lbs

Hill Sprint 20m > 10 Jumping Lunges, 10 Press Ups > 1 Min recovery
Hill Sprint 20m > 9 Jumping Lunges, 9 Press Ups > 1 Min recovery

All down to 1 rep of each and it was a tad hard I must say!

Going to treat myself tonight to a good old fashioned push routine at the gym, get a nice pump on and then go to work

How do you find these mate? I'm only useing 20kg currently but really feel it in my abs, also do you punch the free arm up with the working one, or sort of let it hang down?

I'll make you a deal mate

I'll write the medicine ball article if you write the sandbag one, just finished making mine and I'll write up how I did which is a blatant rip off from another site with my personal touch thrown in
