Best treatment for Mosquito bites? - 02 September 2007 23:33
Whats the best treatment for Mosquito bites?

I am still suffering with itchy angry bites from when I was attacked 1/2 weeks ago!!!

They are super itchy, swollen, red, hot and a circle of hardness about the size of a 10p now.
The more I itch the further the hardness seems to go out.

Should I see a GP or something now you think?
I have got biten before but never this much trouble after... nightmare, agravating me all day and night unless I itch but that makes it worse!!!

Anything I can take or use on the skin?

As long as you are sure they're not infected (should be obvious) ... then sounds like you're having a bit of a reaction to them. I suffer badly with mozzer bites I really do, each one swells up the size of a saucer eurggghh.

I know it's SO hard not to, but try not to itch. Calamine lotion might reduce the itchiness. The only thing that works for me is an anti-histamine tablet, like Piriton or something similar. Try that, it ought to bring the swelling and itchiness right down.

Essential Lavender oil could help.

Yes ET (sorry!) ... I use lavender oil also, I always take it on holiday with me. I'm not certain if it helps the itching but it certainly does have some anti-bacterial and healing properties.

I still say anti-histamine tablets are the only guaranteed solution, seems to be the only thing that brings the swelling right down.

Will try some anti-hitamine and camaline lotion.
My GF said the might be infected but I don't think so.
Will also get some Calomine tomorrow.

Damn bites are like a constant annoyance getting on my last nerve.
I was walking through the shopping center and felt like everyone was looking at them LOL so sending me paranoid as well, is there no end to the agony and mental trauma such a small insect can dish out!!!

Piriton is working, I am using a steroid cream as well.

This is 3 weeks after or something and the swollen red is 5cm in diameter.
My mam volenteers in the hospital and they have had people on morphine as the bites got really bad swollen and into the blood ion some people!!!

I think it wasn't a normal UK type mozzy that got me... probably some mutant chernobyl acid rain fed fcuker.

I actually read earlier today rubbing the inside of a banana peel on them will help; not sure the truth of that.

I feel your pain brother, mozzies and midge bites swell and itch like mad when I'm bitten, I read recently that anti inflamatories help reduce the swelling (makes sense really) although I haven't tried it yet.
