I see. Did you not feel overworked.

Just i have been doing some research on martials combined with weight training and some say it's not ideal to mix the both.

I like martial arts but still want to keep my mass and gain strength you see

Havn't heard the first one but liked the instrumental. Second one, of course. Loved that tune when it came out. Good when it comes on random when im blaring the music loud, espec if im working out. Need to get better speakers for my room. My dads has an amp + four good quality speakers that he doens't use so I'm thinking of going round with a mate, nicking them and hoping he doesn't notice or atleast doesn't care too much.

Dakershade - Generaly those are people who are talking about becoming very serious in either one. Your not aiming to be a pro bodybuilder/powerlifter or boxer/wreslter are you? You want to be bigger, stronger, faster and better at fighting than you were previously and this can all be achieved together fine. A bodybuilding routine is in no way ideal for martial arts as there are better ways of gaining strength/power which is important in martial arts. It will still help a great deal though, you will be much stronger for your weight for starters. Even though I have gone up a few weight classes since I started lifting I am much stronger for my weight. I was 10kg (40kg bench at 50kg ish bw) under my bw for benching when I started. I am now 20kg above it.. WG Chins up from 10-18+. Some coaches are still old fashioned and only advise their fighters on doing body weight and conditioning exercises. This will only get them so far when it comes to strength. Search "wide side for skinny bastards". Built for athletes with speed + condintioning work but with alot of detail on lifting all in one routine. You will need quite abit of free time to follow the routine properly though.

Keep to compounds, add power cleans and some speed work. A little isolation work where necessary.

Have a look at my routine if you want. I tried to get the best of both worlds with it as I don't want to commit myself to a purely bodybuilding or powerlifting or fighters routine. I've got three days of compounds lifts, push/pull/legs and then one day for power/isolation work as I to like my arms big. My warm ups consist of plyometrics which are good for speed and explosive power.

As for being overworked. In Muay Thai they worked you bloody hard with strength endurance which wasn't great for gains imo as I would be aking from hundreds of press ups/sit ups. In judo the warm up and strength work was a walk in the park compared so this did little to hinder my size and strength gains. The fighting was intense but only fitness wise really.

Todays cardio so far:

20 mins none stop skipping.

Not ideal cardio for a cut as it's more intense than a 40 min jog on the treadmill but as I'm revising hard over the next few weeks it will be nice to do a few rounds of 20 minute skips a day.

Just looked at your journal. Looking very lean. I'd say I am currently about 12% body fat (machine says I'm 9% but it can't be accurate) and I'd say you are 10%. I'm cutting so hopfully I'll get down to your leanless over the next month.

Yep I'm at college and find that my diet is actualy better on at college as I have a structure to my day and so know exactly when to eat. When bulking it was like this.

Wake up - Meal 1 (Double protien shake, various suppliments, oats, fruit)
Double period of lessons
Morning break - Meal 2 (chicken sandwhich)
Double period of lessons
Lunch break - Meal 3 (chicken sandwhich)
Single period
Back Home - Meal 4 (double shake, mabie a sandwhich, fruit)
Main dinner - Meal 5 (Will cook enough chicken/beef/fish for the next day and pasta/pototoes to last atleast two days)
Second dinner - Meal 6 (Chicken)
Before bed - Meal 7 (double protein shake)

I buy my sandwhiches or make them in the morning. When you cook, cook alot. Most of my meals are cold food which I'm used to now.

Whats your routine?

Lats felt strong today with the 22 wide grip chins and then 8 chins with 10kg on the belt. Deadlifts still too backy as usual.

PULL

WG chins - 22 (warm up) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zMUey7VPvk
(Too much swinging at the start. With fast reps it's hard not to swing. I want to do 20 clean ones next week.)

Deadlift: (Still can't get my form perfect. My hips always bloody rise too fast making it very backy)
65kg - 10
85kg - 8
95kg - 5
100kg - 8,5

WG Chins:
BW+10kg - 8,6,5,5,5

Single Arm DB Rows:
32.5kg - 5x8

BB curls:
32.5kg - 4x5

Plate Hammer Curls: (Best forearm exercise!)
20kg - 2x8 (2x10kg plates)

Thanks mate.

Sainbury's have packs of 0.75kg - 1kg of chicken which are good quality and very high in protien.

Iceland sell big 1kg+ packs very cheap but I doubt they are as good quality meat.

I ment your gym routine but thanks for that bit of info anyway..

I think you would get on better with a more stuctured routine. 'Mix of all" followed by another 'mix of all' isn't a great idea. A muscle takes 48-72 hours to repair itself fully and in an ideal world it shouldn't be hit at all untill fully repaired. It also means you are hitting your chest and arms three times a week. You would be much better just working them once or possibly twice a week.

I recomend you start a push/pull/leg variation. Basic routine is push-chest/shoulders/triceps, pull-back/biceps, legs.

There are lots of ways you can do this.

Chest/biceps
Legs
Off
Shoulders/Triceps
Back
Off
Off or back to start

Chest/triceps
Back/biceps
Off
Legs shoulders
Off
Off or back to start

Chest
Back
Off
Legs
Arms

These will work much better imo. If you like idea of "mix of all's" you could do a fully body A,B routine.

A
Off
B
Off
A
Off
Off

etc..

These work better for strength training though as they will consist of pretty much only compounds.

So what do you think?

I think the sainsburys chicken is free range. Pretty sure the Iceland stuff isn't though. I will have a better look.

just that id never have the battery chicken because the meat has a **** load more fat in than the other varietys the free range ones because they walk about n shizzle its more dence leaner meat.

o yea and your seed mix do you blend it and sprinkle it into your oat cereal? or just eat em from the packet?

I buy a large packet of seeds mix and spinkle abit onto my oats/dried fruit/dorset ceriel (quite a few nice varieties). Cut up one or two fuits so it isn't dry. If you like yoghurt I would add some as thats what my mum does.

As for the chicken. The iceland stuff has just as much fat in it as free range/organic chicken (approx 2g fat per 100g). The thing that I am worried about is the hormones pumped into it. I will have to do a little more research on the Iceland stuff actualy.
