Just a gentle session today, still knackered and about 85 kg!

Bench Press
2 * 100
1 * 140
150F - Not too far off, and didn't take much rest after the 140
5 * 120
5 * 120
5 * 120

I didn't really feel like doing more, quite knackered now. I don't seem to have lost too much strength though considering the amount of weight I've lost.

Bad news, just been made redundant Basically I've been working as a contractor, and the amount of business the company's dealing with has dropped right off so I'm the first to go. Very pissed off as I've earned very little in the last few weeks as I've been ill. What makes it worse is that if I'd managed to make it in on Monday and Tuesday there's a good chance I'd still be there as I was intended to be on a project kicking off then.

Still feel ill too.

****ing hell mate, sorry to hear that.

1) Take a few days away somewhere to relax, think things over get some perspective

2) Get straight out there looking for new job, speak to your firm about any help they can give you? Competitors? Any friends you have in the same industry get yourself out there.

Just a couple of ideas, hope you get something sorted.

Cheers mate, I'm more chilled out about it now, and to an extent I think I'd have done the same in their situation. I did get to help write my reference though which is good... carried the team, made the rest of us look like slackers, true visionary genius... all comments I was tempted to write

I'll have to see what the market's like for permanent and contract jobs now, I suspect contract work is more likely as companies are uncertain about long term demand.

Had a bit of a bench and C&J session today, 5@120, 6@110, 8@100, 8@80 and a few more drop sets. Triceps were knackered after that so I did C&J. Cleans were fine, but locking out was a pain due to my triceps, did several reps at 60 then a few more at 70. Finished off with 3 sets of 12 BW dips. Not too bad for my first session back, but bench was a bit weak.

Turns out the illness was strep throat, so no glandular fever!

I read that at first as "I had a GF a while back..."

You're up very late too, what time do you get up in the morning?

Some good lifting on this log. You very close to the 300/400/500 (bp/sq/dl). Obviously just the squat to do.

Thanks and yes , not bad considering I didn't start squatting until the start of this journal either. 181 kg doesn't seem that far away for squatting given that 170 felt okay (pre-illness). It'll probably take a month or so to get back to where I was with training though due to the amount of weight I've lost. My target is a 600 kg total by the end of the year, probably 160 BP, 200 SQ, 240 DL.

That would be a nice total. Ever thought of powerlifting? If you could put 600 on the platform in your 1st comp or so, say around the 90kg class, you'd be above average unequipped. Even in 100's you'd be better than a lot. If your short and in the 82's even better!

At the moment I'm ~86kg at 6', so while 82.5 would be possible, I'd have to get quite lean to manage it as I'm not exactly chubby now (no recent pics unfortunately). If I can hit 600 then I'd be very tempted to try for a competition, it would give me reason to remain natural as well.

At 6' I think you'd be better staying in 90's and slowly working up to 100's. Non the less, if you do decide to compete I would just turn up, weight whatever and feel strong at your 1st meet.

The idea of turning up and weighing what I do for a first time sounds about right, although if I was 90.5 kg I think I'd choose to drop down

Yesterday I did a circuits session which left me feeling drained, so decided to do a quick squatting session today.

Squats
10 * 60 - Warm up
10 * 100
6 * 130 - Felt hard :(
2 * 130 - Could have done more easily, but really didn't feel up to it mentally.

I seem to be coughing up more phlegm today than before, and I've got a bit of a headache, so I think back to taking it easy for now and sticking with lighter weights. :(

Did my usual arms session today as it's been a while, weights were much the same as before which is good. I was training with someone this time, and the rest time was the time taken for him to do his set and switch the weights over, so a lot quicker than normal. Dips didn't go too well though, struggled my way to BW*6 at one point Especially bad given that I weighed in this morning at 84.9 kg On the plus side I'm looking quite cut at the moment, although I need to work on my tan

Yeah, I'm having to go through psychometric testing and such all over again

Arms now 16" and 16 3/8" so it is working, about the only place I haven't shrunk since losing ~9 kg I've always had overpowering shoulders from years of swimming and rowing, so my arms have looked undersized compared to my delts and traps, hence the focus on them.

Bit of a back session today, avoided deadlifts though as I already feel half-dead, no energy at all today

Wide Grip Chins
10 * BW
6 * BW + 20
6 * BW + 20
6 * BW + 20
5 * BW (Couldn't get the sixth all the way, no rest before this set)

Sit-ups
15 * BW + 10
15 * BW + 10
15 * BW + 10

Very nice, a long time since I've really done direct abdominal work, and I used to try BW, +5, +10 most of the time.

Barbell Rows
10 * 60 - Actually a few more as I did about 4, stopped then did 10
6 * 80 - Okay, not great form
5 or therabouts * 100 - Poor form, but useful in a way I guess.

Standing Military Press
10 * 58
6 * 68
6 * 68
6 * 70 - 2 reps down on my best, but it was the last set.

[B]Bench Press
6 * 70 - Super slow
4 * 110 - Triceps were knackered by this point
4 * 110

Decline Sit-ups
10 * BW+5 - Ouch!
15 * BW

no offense but i would have thought your mill press would be slightly higher with your bench press?

The injury I had last year was from doing MP, hence I left it out for about a year and only went back to it a couple of months ago. I'm still being a little careful with it and strict on form. I did manage to C&J 100 kg not that long ago though
