If your bulking then it's almost a non issue. If your loosing a bit of weight then the occasional meal a week that isn't to plan is no probs. If your tying to get BB ripped then it's time to wheel out the willpower bug time!

I like to eat as clean as possible. I like to vary flavours and meals to try and stop getting fed up with the same thing. Also, I stick at it because every few weeks I have a few drinks or a meal out (pub lunch, take away...). Its like if your cutting for a holiday, there is a target, and motivation follows. I like to apply the principle to everything now.

I've found a few things over time... If i plan a cheat, i dont feel guilty about it afterwards - Its part of my overall plan. If i dont plan a cheat, it can often lead to a cheat day and i just binge like crazy. If i have that cheat in the morning/early, it will make it alot harder through the day to avoid other cheats "mmm it was nice, ive already cheated one more wont hurt yummmm". Therefore if i have it in the evening, perhaps post workout(I feel even less guilty!) then the day ends and i go to sleep. I wake fresh and ready to start a clean day, temptation is reduced. This is coming from someone who would consider there will power to be very high, walking into a sweet shop isnt a problem (providing my goal is clearly defined and i have short goals "Not eating more than `1800kcals today" defined). Lastly, shopping is probably the most important part of dieting. If its in the trolley, its in your belly (or may aswell be right now). If you dont buy it, you wont eat it. (Assuming your not a thief and dont go to other peoples house to eat often).

^^ why must one think of it as a cheat? that doesn't help either think of it as a meal. like any other

I'm a fairly clean eater and haven't had any fast food, chocolate, cakes, crisps for six months although when I go for a meal like last Wednesday for my birthday and have chicken in a creamy sauce and garlic bread I feel guilty for a couple of days afterwards, which isn't a nice feeling and even though I know the one meal won't hurt me, its sometimes worrying how guilty I feel

I have the opposite problem to most of you lot. Doesn't matter what i eat, even the biggest, dirtiest binges don't leave me with any feelings of guilt at all. I feel ace afterwards. Then i fall asleep I haven't eaten clean in a long time

ORIGINAL: 1MR I can't seem to stop myself eating junk at times I know I don't need to! Is it just simply self-control!? Any tips are welcome! How easily do you succumb to temptation? I avoid the chocolate aisles in supermarkets as, if I see chocolate, I want to eat it. When the Lindor ad comes on the telly, I shut my eyes and say out loud "I'm not listening, I'm not listening." until the ad has finished (I have to take an occasional peek to see when it's finished). Just as well I live on my own! I love to eat and I could so easily stuff myself full of junk, but I have to practise sef-control for the sake of my health. That said, eating junk once a week isn't going to kill you. Unless I'm hungry, I'm usually really good at avoiding junk in the supermarket. I always think to myself as I walk round that I want people to see me as a health-freak and any junk in there would ruin the image! My problem comes more (thought not entirely) through being hungry and being too lazy to cook/prepare and eat something I've been eating all week, so I go to the supermarket specifically to buy a pizza or something, away from my "big shop"! This happens when I've no routine too. The working week is pretty easy and mostly clean, but the weekend is a junk-fest, no veg, no fruit, skipping meals, relying on shakes to keep calories up, etc. quote:

Then i fall asleep I haven't eaten clean in a long time Ditto that, I don't feel guilt as I tell myself "its ok, I train hard, work hard, I'm lucky in that I have a metabolism that lets me carry excess weight well and I can get rid of it when the time's right". I'm also lucky/unlucky to be dating a girl who loves her food (junk food and clean food) so we can happily binge together on a weekend! I guess I just need to decide what is more important to me, pizza, or a desirable physique & long-term health! Will-power from tomorrow and I'll try and keep "junk" meals down to twice a week.
