always been a weed - 27 November 2007 10:55
I've always been a weed, even at school, and even now I'm 27 years old!

Always found it hard to lift things off the floor, and things above my head, but not so bad if someone passed it to me.

I remember once at work I couldn't lift a car tyre above my head into a skip and they all made fun of me

Back then I was about 5 foot 9 and weighed about 6 stone, so a slim build.

At 24 I weighed 107 lbs (7 stone 6) being 6 foot tall. I decided to do major weight gain. Scoffing cakes, KFC, turnovers, chocolate, crisps, fry ups. I carried this on for a year and weighed 165 pounds. Yep not healthy way to gain weight but people said I looked more healthy.

Anyway, now I'm around 140lbs, I no longer kept up the stupid eating, and I eat a lot more healthier. I do still eat a fry up, but I have meals with protein, carbs and veg (always 3 meals a day, and a snack of a pear, yogurt/apple). I workout 2-3 days a weeks, 10 minute cardio and go straight onto weights. Before and after workout I drink a glass of whey protein, one scoop each time with milk.

I'm really having difficulty putting on weight and stop being a wimp. 140lbs isn't bad weight, but I'd love to weight around 160 but be healthy, without jugs and gut. So many more people lift heavier weights than me, the other day I had to get a 15 year old microwave off the fridge (above my head) and I couldn't do it. I weighed it and it was a pathetic 40lbs.

Anyway, I cant really lift things off the ground too easy, and things above my head are so hard. Why is it so difficult?

What is weird I can now do 85lb chest press at the gym, and the bicep one 80lbs and another some other chest excercies 80. Anything else I look like a wuss bag

welcome to MT

you need to eat a lot more food
i'd recommend 5 or 6 meals a dayc
heck herer for ideas

http://www.mealplansite.com/sports-bodybuilding-new-gain.aspx

if your struggling to get enough food in
liquid calories, dense foods, the odd take-away...

you also might want to check yourself into the routines section
for a routine more specific to your goals
frankie NY mass maybe

hypertrophy training will not necessarily increase functional strength
you've become neurolically/physically efficient with these exercise

don't be so harsh on yourself
plenty of people started like yourself
well done for getting to where you are at from 100 lbs

Muscle will come easily for your frame

Just remember when it comes to weight training to not let your ego get involved

What other people lift more than you is of no consequence to you, youre only in competition with yourself

First things first, what is your current eating regime? I would suggest simply doubling what you eat right now if its clean (lets have a look still) then ease into the 6 times a day eating plan if necessary, heck why not eat 4-5 times a day if it suits you better

Tell me what problems you may have with food such as portion sizes, intolerances, hates etc and ill help you get together a rough diet that you can use

Shall we begin the journey?

I got really sick of eating too much before, but if it's good food I will enjoy it

Brekkie 3 slices of bacon and maybe an egg

I have my dinner next. Which is either, sausage and mash. pork chops mash veg and gravy. Chicken curry with rice etc. any of them dishes, with takeaways weekend (thai or chinese)

For a late lunch (after dinner) . I have bread and dip :|

My last snack for the night is a pear and a yogurt.

------------

When I work out I have a whey protein drink with milk before and after. 1 scoop each time :D

You'd be surprised. When you get used to 6-8 meals a day, you'll find you start to crave food every 2 or 3 hours.

@ theiopener, I really love eating vegetables, i'm starting to get into fruit. I do prefer rice to potatoes, and i do like steak and a bit of chicken. i have low blood pressure at the moment so the doc says i need a lot more water and salt in my diet, i'm not sure if that will effect it in anyway. i don't really cook much but the other half does

@ daveo , i did hear that from a few people too! i guess once i get trying it i can believe it

good stuff mate

Ok how about this

Breakfast 4 whole egg omelette with chives, onion and mushrooms with 4 slices of granary toast with natural fruit spread
lunch: Home made cheese steak sandwiches, (1 12" granary baguette 150g steak cooked and slices and some Leskol cheese melted into it with salad)
Dinner: Bacon wrapped chicken breast with baked sweet potato with roasted parsnips and carrots and broccoli
Prebed: chicken stiry fry with brown rice (use a healthy living range of stir fry sauces and some toasted sesame oil with it)

this is just a very very basic meal plan off the top of my head, but gives you room to work with

Make good choices when it comes to food, make sure its somewhat clean and healthy and just eat more if you can. Gradually ease into it, when you have become accustomed to 4 meals then try adding in another one for a few weeks then try another one.

Just eat watch your weight during the first few months and train as hard as you can

if you struggle eatting so many solid meals, you can simple make up your own MRPs and drink them instead.

I like the sound of this mate, but a couple of questions!

I work weird hours, and normally try to eat the same time as my gf.

The brekkie and dinner sound great. also the stir fry I think i could make that in advance and reheat for the week

Is it possible to swap dinner around with lunch, and also to have something different for lunch. Would tuna sandwiches be as good as steak and cheese sandwiches?

I'm back again. I'm now around 160lbs so I've gained around 20 pounds in 4 months, but for the last 3-4 weeks I've stayed around the same. I changed the diet around a bit but was eating bad carbs so I have a bit of a gut, but I've still been training 3 days a week.

Here is my new diet I started on Monday. Do you think this is good?

Breakfast: (barely have an appetite in the morning)

Bowl of bran flakes

---

Lunch:

Vegetable/Wedding soup with two slices of wholewheat bread/bagel and a boiled egg

Dinner:

Chicken breast with sweet potatoes with either spinach or brocholli

or

Turkey sausage with whole wheat pasta

or

Salmon with brown rice and asparagus

Late night snack:

Chicken breast sandwich with cucumber and lettuce and a boiled egg.

Second late night snack:

Tin of small tuna with kiwi and banana. Protien shake

----------------

If I'm going to the gym (1.5 hours after dinner, I have a whey protein before and after)

Is my diet ok now? I've tried to improve it a lot more now I've learnt a long the way. I was still eating a bit dirty and this is working out as cheap as I can do

I dont think your eating enought mate, and lacking in some macro's. How much of the weight you have put on is Muscle? Im suprised you have put on that amount of weight on that diet.

I was eating a lot different before. More sandwiches and every day mash potatoes - made the mistake of eating everything white, but that sort of backfired. My arms and chest have started to get a bit bigger (no fat) . My legs are really big from all the workouts I've done with the personal trainer. Only thing that got fatter/stayed the same is my gut. So I wondered if this diet would make me lose fat (while excersing of course) and put on a bit of weight too.

An extra 5-10lbs would be great I think. I'm 6 foot tall
