Just to report a quick Chest workout last night and, although I'm not really still doing the '5x5' thing, I did the same exercises as last week:

Bench Press
92.5kg 5 x 5 - 2.5kgs up on last week - will try 95 next week

Weighted Dips
plus 10kg - all up weight 101.7kgs - 4 x 5, 1 x 10 - still more to come...

Oh, and to finish off:

Press Ups x 30 - will look to increase back up to decent levels over the next few weeks. I'm looking to get some of the 'functional fitness' back, not just lifting heavty weights

Starting to think about cutting now, along with Mrs S, so good timing. Won't make any dramatic changes to start with - just reduce overall calories a little, but kep the protein intake up. Things like taking my whey in water rather than milk will help initially, as well as upping the cardio a bit, then push on from there until the Summer...

Sam

Mr S - if you upped the cardio for Mrs S any more, she will fade away!

Just changed the name of my journal.

Calling it Born Again Body Builder made it sound like I considered myself a Bodybuilder which, frankly is a bit of an insult to a great deal of folk on here.

I'm really not sure I could ever have the staying power or mental fortitude to be a Bodybuilder in the true sense of the word.

So, Sculpting for Summer is about where I'm at currently.

Tried to do a Legs workout yesterday but me Back was still hurting so instead did:

Wide Grip Chins
B/W only (89.2kgs) 5 x 6

EZ B/B Bicep Curls
38kg 5 x 6

That was all.

Cutting calories a little, Mrs S is making great salads for lunch and generally feeling fairly healthy (apart from my Back ).

Will continue with roughly 3 sessions a week based loosely on 5 x 5 but leaving out heavy Squats and Deadlifts.

Had quite a good Leg workout with a male client of at Genesis Gym on Saturday - he wants to make it a regular thing and it suits me (I also get paid for it ) - did mainly machines rather than heavy free weight stuff but it was still effective.

Chest/Triceps last night and managed to up the weights again:

Flat B/B Bench Press
95kg 5 x 5 - will be interesting to see if I can get 97.5 next week

Weighted Dips
B/W + 15kg (106.6kg all up) 3 x 5 - these were quite easy so:
B/W + 20kg (111.6kg all up) 2 x 5 - more like it - will start on this weight next week

Weighed in at 87.8kgs on Sunday morning, so the weight gain seems to have stopped - I'm hoping the muscle/strength is still there - just a bit of fat coming off?

I'm certainly not feeling as 'bloaty' as I was a couple of weeks ago.

So far, so good - I think I may be reaching my 'threshold' fairly soon though.

I love the routine in it's simplicity and objectivity - looking forward to next week already

I know what you mean mate, I love how simple it is and having a set routine down to weights, sets and reps before I start.

WGC's and EZ Bicep Curls tonight

WGC's
B/W (90.4kg) 6 x 5 - should have been 5 x 5 but Mrs S was videoing

EZ Bicep Curls
40.5kg 5 x 5

Plus approx. 15mins hard punching on my new 'floor to ceiling ball' - will be doing more of this in the coming weeks.

Still feeling a bit fat but Mrs S says I'm not looking fat (bless her) - anyway everyone else on here seems to be 'around 15% body fat' so why should I be any different?

Chest and Triceps on the 5 x 5 tonight and more increases

Flat Bench
97.5kgs 5 x 5 - next week we reach the big 100!

Weighted Dips
B/W plus 20kg (111kg all up) 5 x 5

That was it - really pleased with the progress at the moment - I seem to be dropping a little bf as well as I am doing a bit more cardio and not consuming quite so many cals. so all good - until the next injury that is...

Back/Biceps last night 5 x 5 stylee...

Wide Grip Chins
B/W plus 4kg - 94.9kg all up - 5 x 5 - form wasn't great but completed them. However they really hurt my elbows which have a chronic case of Golfer's Elbow. I won't do them again until this has calmed down a bit. Will probably go to the gym and do Wide Grip Pulldowns instead which don't seem to aggravate the problem too much

EZ Bicep Curls
43kg 5 x 5 - these were anything but 'EeeZee' - form not great - will stay at this weight next week until I can get the form stricter. Can't believe 40plus is talking about curling 55kgs!

T Bar Rows - put these in 'cos I thought I hadn't worked my back enough.
60kg 5 x 5

Got a weekend with lots of cardio - teaching Spinning Saturday and Sunday, then running (actually walking most of it ) a 10k with a client on Monday.

Should be going for my 100kg 5 x 5 on Bench press on Monday - wish me luck

Hi Sam

Firstly, good luck with the bench press, not that you will need it.
I too have tendon issues with my elbows, I find Glucosamine works for me - 2 g per day with breakfast.
For the curling it's only 52.5 kg , that includes the weight of the EZ bar in that, it weighs 9 kg so I call it 10 including the bigger collars.
