I started this journal when i had to lose weight for a MMA tournament, i had quit bodybuilding for MMA in the summer of 2007. I've edited this first page so to help out the person who is reading this from the beginning for the first time. For the next 14-15 pages you will see my progression through amateur MMA from starting out training to competing in the cage for an amateur no head shots bout at SENI 2008. Here are the links to 2of the 3 amateur (no headshots) fights i had. http://youtube.com/watch?v=dgGU2vJNbBo Last fight from SENI -2008 at the Excel Arena http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhjlzxdJM24 I have since then restarted bodybuilding and quit MMA, here is my journal detailing every step of the way. Latest pics are on page 47 of this journal I am competin in 2009, shows as of yet undecided but will be around spring/summer time. To show you how radical my body shape has changed over the years, here's a pic of when i was under 12 stone... taken november 2005 More recent pics taken on page 47. I am also proud to say that i'm sponsered by www.bodybuildingwarehouse.co.uk Incredible Bulk ------------------------------------------------------------ January 2008 I let myself go a bit with the diet but still went hard at the weights so i'm sitting at 100kg (220lbs = 15.7 stone) I have a fight February 16th and i need to shed 8kg to get to the middleweight catagory as they've put the light heavy weight bracket at 93-120kg! (fook that). I'd rather be the heaviest middleweight than the lightest light heavyweight Pic are up in the MT shape up contest thinga'ma'jig but i'll repost Stats: Height - 5ft 9 Weight - 100kg Neck - 17 Arms - 17 Waist - 36 Thigh - 26 Calf - 17.5

Good luck buddy. How do you plan to loose the 8KG? it's quite a lot to loose in such a short space of time...

this week has been messed up due to bank holidays and xmas so i'm winging it this week. last night: 4pm treadmill 3 minute fast walk 2 minute 15km/h sprint 25 mins jogging afterwards with a few fast walks thrown in the 2 minute sprint fooked me over and it felt like i was breathing fire... i've still got a cold thats gone to my chest a bit so it made the last 10 minutes hard. 2 minute sprint was added at the beginning so i had to push myself to complete the 30mins, more like a cardio with an added heart check thrown in - quit or complete. weight 98.25kg ------ down 1.75kg (nearly 4lb) water weight loss it was my girlfriends father's 60th birthday so i was taken out to dinner, all you can eat chinese buffet i was good and avoided the rice, i just had the chicken chow mein and a few other sundries... still not good -------------------------------------------------- 6:30am this morning 1 degreee C outside.... brrrrrrrrr weighed myself and it was 98.25kg still, the panic over the chinese incline bench 2 x 6 90kg 1 x 15 60kg standing military press 1 x 12 45kg 1 x 8 45kg 1 x 7 45kg chins 8,4 medium grip pulldown 2 x 8 70kg bent rows 3 x 12 55kg called it a day, biceps and triceps were warmed nicely from the first proper weight session in over 2 weeks. tonight will be some light cardio and mostly ab work, rotor cuffs

BJJ - Good class running over technique for an hour, 30 minute sparring at the end which i was happy with. Sweeped a guy so i gained mount but half way through i felt like crying as my bad rib flared up... cant wait to have the time to be able to rest it. No cardio this morning as tonight will be a heavy session of BJJ and wrestling

5pm last night 10mins on cross trainer at fast pace = 375 cals burned 8 mins on bike, revs around 110rpm = 100cals 11 mins on recumbant bike = 100 cals sauna jacuzzi shower ------------------------------------------------------------ 6:30am this morning 20 mins on treadmill, average pace... really starting to feel the low carbs, i've been alternating between carb free and low carb days as i've got some serious weight to lose but its paying off. weight = 95.25kg = 2kg lost (4.4lbs) some of it is muscle but i'd rather lose the weight ASAP and hopefully be in a position to eat a bit more carbs near my fight rather than fight depleted.

ORIGINAL: NeilD Interesting journal mate, I'll keep popping in.. You say you've got a fight, you don't sound too sure what weight your fighting at.. is it MMA? I must have skipped it somehow, but whats your wieghts routine 1+2 ? cheers mate i'm fighting at middle weight for this tournament, it has weird and wonderful weight catagories... i have to get down to 90kg at least a week out from the fight to allow me to slowly add some carbs and energy before the day. Yes its MMA my weights routine has been passed over for a little while but its a whole body workout bench chins clean n press bent rows barbell curls skulls ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday: Normal bag warm up, worked on BJJ techniques, mainly mount escapes and a few muay thai drills... the rib prevented me kicking with my right side. Zero carb day....horray!!! Saturday: Today was a re-feed day so i had two weetabix with milk for breakfast and for lunch i had some wholemeal rolls with chicken breast. Oh the energy came back! sparring... Normal warm up session on the bags, i'm getting fitter so i can work more on some speed work. Stand up sparring was eventful, in one round i caught a spinning back fist to the back of the head (naughty naughty) full pelt. It was a 5 second delay before i crashed onto my back and saw stars and bright spots.... Waited a few moments to get my senses, got back up, found my legs and carried on... At the end of the round i asked the guy what i'm doing wrong and what to look out for (he's a pro fighter) and he said not to signal my kicks so much. few rounds later it was MMA ground and pound sparring (BJJ with strikes). this week i was more switched on to where my hands were and i only got arm barred once still got mounted and pounded a few times by the more experianced guys, two black eyes to show lol. Next week i'll be working on covering up more. all in all, 1.5 hours of constant sparring and i felt great... the lighter weight, carb refuel and extra cardio work during the week is working wonders.
