M-drol cyle starting 3.11.08 or maybe sooner (page 9)

Im 27 years old, a type 1 diabetic (insulin dependant), I have been training with varying degrees of application for about 3 years now. I have decided that in lieu of a training partner I will have a journal, hopefully it will help keep my motivation up and discourage my natural tendancy towards lazyness. I will be following the basic HIT routine from the MT article. http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/article-hit-training.aspx Day 1 Bench press or weighted dips 2x8 Squats 1x20 Bent over rows 2x8 Abs Day 2 Overhead press 2x8 Deadlifts or straight leg deadlifts 1x15 Chins 2x8 Abs I will be using drop sets too.

My first full training session for several weeks and i found it quite tough Bench warmup 20 * 15 50 * 8 set 1 75 * 10 65 * 5 55 * 3.5 set 2 70 * 6 60 * 4 50 * 3 (felt heavy but a fair number of reps managed) Squat warmup BW * 15 50 * 10 set 1 80 * 15 (first squats for some time, my legs were not grateful.) BOR warmup 20 * 12 40 * 10 set 1 60 * 10 50 * 8 set 2 70 * 7 60 * 4 (been doing dumbell rows and legs were still shaking from squats) Crunches 10 * 15 BW * 10 edited for neatness

Today got split in half as I stopped deads after feeling alot of discomfort in my left ham. I think it really needs stretching so I will do alot of that over the next week see if it improves. DB OHP (DB weight now included (2k)) warmup 12.5 * 12, 15 * 12 set 1 22 * 11, 15 * 6 set 2 20 * 6, 15 * 3, 12 * 8 Deadlift warmup 60 * 10, 80 * 6 set 1 110 * 4 (left ham still crappy so stopped) Stopped here, continued later. WG Chins set 1 15 * 7, 10 * 3, 5 * 3 set 2 10 * 5, 5 * 2, BW * 3 (a good increase from last week ) Incline Crunches set 1 10 * 20, BW * 10

Training was pretty messed up, had to stay on at work so fell a day behind, and my ham is even worse meaning Deadlifts, Squats and BORs will have to take another break. At least I can still do DB Rows although it is uncomfortable. I also had to return my new (3 day old) weight bench to argos as it was w4nk, the seat would not have taken my weight, it sank with just hand pressure. Then I had to get up after a couple of hours sleep to receive my new spin bike. It's a Lemond and I am quite impressed with it, very quiet. Bench warmup 20 * 15, 50 * 10 set 1 82.5 * 4, 72.5 * 6, 62.5 * 4 (felt heavier than i was expecting, another warmup set might be in order) set 2 77.5 * 5, 67.5 * 3, 57.5 * 3 Squat warmup BW * 20 - tried the next warmup set and couldnt due to ham) Had to stop here and go and return my bench to Argos Cardio 25mins on my new bike DB Rows warmup 20 * 20(BB), 32 * 10(DB) set 1 Left 42 * 8, 37 * 7. Right 42 * 10, 37 * 8 set 2 Left 42 * 6, 37 * 7. Right 42 * 10, 37 * 8 Leg Raises * 20 (on a flat bench)

Nice one mate, how does the diabetes affect your training diet? (if at all)
The race is long... and in the end, it's only with yourself.

It dosnt really affect it all, just have to go easy of the fast carbs as my insulin is a little slower than natural slin. I'm going to be dieting down a little for the next 6 weeks, holiday, then back to bulking. Thanks for popping in

Did you pull the hamstring during a lift or did it happen gradually? Have you seen Jame's diet for diabetic bodybuilders on the meal plan site- just an idea Good start to the journal mate, nice simple routine

I think the first time i felt it was doing shrugs with 200k a few months ago, but i was not squatting or DLing at the time so it didnt hinder me and didnt really give it much thought. My own fault i suppose, just hope it gets better soon. I have had my diet done by James team (clairie B in particular i think) but only follow about 50% due to going off certain foods. Eating vegetables is a chore for me and I don't really like eating meat (too chewy), so I have tuna, milk, soya milk, cottage cheese and whey to bulk up my protein. I am enjoying the routine and it should be easy to change up a little every 8-10 weeks which i plan to do, I am guilty of growing attached to routines and getting in ruts. cheers for the interest.

Good luck with this mate. I trained a type II diabetic recently - he did extremely well on a protein/fat diet with minimal carbs. You may want to consider it at some point. :)

For cutting? I was under the impression diabetics did poorly on really low carb diets, but that may only be type 1s, or it may not be true

Cardio 25 mins straight after waking. Ordered some protein bars, lots of protein bars. I will record my waist and weight measurements on Monday and every suqsequent Monday, hopefully there will be a downward trend.

ORIGINAL: Xian good luck! thanks mate DB OHP warmup 12.5 * 12, 15 * 12 set 1 23 * 8, 15 * 5 set 2 22 * 3, 15 * 4 (I already put the 10k plates on for the last set and didnt want to take off, bit too heavy though ) WG Chins set 1 20 * 6, 15 * 2, 10 * 3 set 2 15 * 4, 10 * 2, 5 * 2 (This style of training is definatley agreeing with WG Chins, was stuck in a rut on 3*8) Crunches set 1 15 * 15, BW * 10 Weirdly when moving plates about I felt the same discomfort but more strongly in my right ham, possibly I just started deadlifting again too much too soon after a long break.

Bench warmup 20 * 15, 40 * 10 set 1 82.5 * 6, 72.5 * 4, 62.5 * 4 set 2 77.5 * 4, 67.5 * 3, 57.5 * 4 (about the same as last week I will adjust the dropset 'drops' to 5k instead of 10 next week,should = more work at higher weights = progress?) Squat BW * 20 (felt ok) Lunges Bw * 10 Left, BW * 10 Right (thinking of doing these instead of squats for a while, less strain on ham) DB Rows set 1 Left 44 * 10, 40 * 4. Right 44 * 10, 40 * 4 set 2 Left 44 * 8, 40 * 5. Right 44 * 8, 40 * 5 Crunches BW * 30
