Hi Girls,

I realise this is an old post but have just come accross it whilst browsing (should be studying for my finals ooops!). I just wanted to say a big thank you to you girls for raising this!

Every smear I have had has been painful and I often bleed heavily afterwards. I always end up coming home feeling grotty as a result, but after reading this I'm so glad to hear I'm not the only one.

But to cheer the rest of you girls up - one of the first smear tests I had the spectulum came flying out of me at a rate of nots and was about three inches from hitting the head of the poor nurse. She just said "oooo u must have a very good pelvic floor!". LOL So from then I've always thought, ach well it can't get much worse!

I will definitly ask for a smaller spectulum next time - didn't even know that these existed until I read this thred - doh!

Lol I will never get over the initial look of shock on her face!

Was absolutley mortified at the time but now I get the giggles just thinking about it. Poor nurse - she probably wears protective head wear when administering smears now :P

Ah it's not just me then!

First one I had the nurse was brutal - called me a baby and told me if I could get a penis in there a speculum shouldn't be a problem......

Of course, the next time I went I was so traumatised, I told the nurse who said she'd use a smaller speculum.

After the smear (which was uncormfortable but not awful, this time), she happily informed me she'd used the child's speculum.

Which was great, but CHILDS????

I've just had my letter to go again.........should be interesting.

yep i also find them painful, not "a little bit uncomfortable" but actually painful, last time i screamed out and she did indeed go for a smaller speculum and it was alright then. it's nothing to do with being relaxed or not, some of them just don't know what the hell they are doing rummaging around in there !!!!!
