Weds 13th Feb 2008

DEADLIFT

51kg x10
71kg x5
91kg x5
121kg x3

^warm-up

140kg x5
140kg x5
140kg x5
140kg x5
140kg x5

Didn't feel too hard, grip felt strong too

BENT-OVER ROWS

51kg x10
71kg x8

^warm-up

93kg x8
93kg x9
93kg x8

Did these bent-over further than usual... not quite 90 degrees but not far off. Actually felt stronger doing them this way

BARBELL CURLS

42.5kg x10
42.5kg x10
42.5kg x10

Slight weight increase. Last set felt easier than the other two

Finished off with some more shoulder dislocates with an unloaded bar. Quite like doing these

Song for the day: Sun Kil Moon 'Floating'. Video's just something someone has made, quite suits the song I think:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=PlO9_sHNFoQ

Wandered into town earlier to get some bits and there was a couple of blokes just milling around at the top of the high street howling and roaring at passers-by... idiots

'Alright Dave what are you up to today?'
'Alright Kev, nothing much, what about you?'
'Do you fancy hovering about and shouting random incomprehensible gibberish at people?'
'Tempting, but I've got a lot on... shopping and that, you know'
'Oh go on, it'll be a laugh'
'Yeah alright, you've talked me round'

MILITARY PRESS

26kg x12
52kg x6

^warm-up

70kg x8
70kg x8
70kg x10 oi vey!

BARBELL SHRUGS

120kg x10
120kg x10
120kg x10

DUMBELL SIDE RAISES

2 x 14kg x10
2 x 14kg x10
2 x 14kg x10

REVERSE FLYES

2 x 14kg x10
2 x 14kg x10
2 x 14kg x10

Felt tougher but not impossible

Made a mistake calculating the weight of the dumbells previously btw - was actually lifting 2x12.5kg before, not 11.5kg

Feel I'm still working well within my limits for military presses - last set decided to go for it on the spur of the moment and whacked out 10 reps. Felt like there was maybe another rep left too

More weight next week, more weight

Dog warden arrived earlier to take some photos of next door's back yard from our house as evidence. I had to phone the council up to report them as they've evidently been letting the dog out to take a dump but haven't been clearing up after it, as their yard is covered in dog muck Absolutely disgusting. Anyway he spoke to them and told them they've got to clean it up or be taken to court

FRONT SQUAT

26kg x12
52kg x6
82kg x4

^warm-up

102kg x8
102kg x8
102kg x8

STIFF-LEGGED DEADLIFT

108kg x8
108kg x8
108kg x8

BARBELL CALF RAISES

112kg x25
112kg x25

Again a decent session

Squats felt not too bad in a horrible kind of way, if that makes sense

SLDLS felt easy TBH, will add another 2kg next time

Song for today: 'Locust Star' by Neurosis:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fmdmnnv2NkY

The bass player's expression at 4:30 is extremely comical too, makes me chuckle every time I see it

Check out the album 'Through Silver In Blood'. It's about 12 years old but still sounds ahead of its time

Takes a few listens to fully sink in though

Apparently one of the members lost most of his family in a car accident, which goes some way to explaining why they sound the way they do

Cheers mate, grip is probably about 10" between thumbs when doing close grip bench - any closer and my wrists feel uncomfortable

Possibly, considering having a light and tentative military press / front squat workout tomorrow morning. We'll see

Back still feels not quite right ATM, so will see how it feels in the morning. Should be alright to bench monday though

The same thing happened about a year ago with 144kg, and it was fine after a few days rest

Irritating though - you start getting into the swing of things and feel unstoppable, then something always reminds you that you're a mere mortal

great isnt it?

a note on the benching mate, this may not help - it depends on what part of your backs knackered though

some good progress being made fella

Yeah I'll see how it feels - just down to common sense. No harm in taking a week off if need be. I know a good physio I can see if necessary

I felt it in the lumbar region of the spine, just on the right round about L4 or L5. Think it's just a strain. I think what must've happened was that the bar maybe drifted a bit to the front somehow, causing the lower back to round slightly

im not sure where the l4 or l5 regions are mate but i know the lumbars are at the bottom of the spine so it may be alright with benching fella

do as you say, try you're light sets and see how it goes

i'm going to get back into it and stop farting around, i must be the only person a week into my cut that has not yet done any cardio and i need to get benching myself tomorrow fella

anyway id better get back to "work"

L4 and L5 are just vertebrae in the lumbar region of the spine, this pic should give you more of an idea:

BENCH PRESS

26kg x12
52kg x6
82kg x4

^warm-up

95kg x8
95kg x8
95kg x8

INCLINE BENCH

77kg x8
77kg x8
77kg x8

CLOSE-GRIP BENCH

71kg x8
71kg x8
71kg x10

Finished with some shoulder dislocates 3x10

Decent session, felt good

Bought a ball of chalk yesterday from a skatepark nearby - should come in handy in the future

May do some light deads on wednesday, but we'll see. Back still feels a little bit 'not quite right', though benching was fine. Probably because I don't do this:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=er5GBIg2s8k&feature=related

Will be trying out the sumo stance for a while. The reason being it seems like it's going to be more suited to my build, seeing as I'm one of those lucky people with longish legs and relatively short arms

Off to buy a couple more 20kg plates this afternoon too

Read a few interesting novels last week, so I might write a bit about them a bit later if I have time
