91kg x5
101kg x3

^warm-up

120kg x5
120kg x5
120kg x5
120kg x5
120kg x5

*hamstring stretches before each set*

BENT OVER ROWS

^warm-up

99kg x8
99kg x8

BARBELL CURLS

45kg x10
45kg x10
45kg x10

Shoulder dislocations 4 x 10

Front squat holds: 3 x 35 secs

Good session. Sumo deads feel very comfortable. 120kg quite easy so a bit more next week. Regret not switching to sumo deads sooner, I'm much more suited to them

Will try 100kg for rows next week... don't anticipate any problems

Was going to go for a cycle earlier but it started raining. Instead a friend and I went to look round the charity shops in Herne Bay. Might go for a ride tomorrow, weather permitting

It's because the only other thing I can think to say when I come in here is "Dan's a douche bag"

I'm making the switch to sumo deads right now too, so it's nice to read about someone making the same move I am

Good going mate.

Think I may be more suited to sumo deads also, will give these a go once injury free!

He's on an evangelising mission from the Church of the Sumo Deadlift. A worthy cause

Mail received btw

Cheers Griff. Hope the injury is sorted out soon. They work the legs a lot more so might be exactly what you're looking for. Front squats are also worth a go if you have back trouble

^warm-up

75kg x8
75kg x8
75kg x8

BARBELL SHRUGS

130kg x10
130kg x10
130kg x10

SIDE RAISES

2 x 15 1/2kg x10
2 x 15 1/2kg x10
2 x 15 1/2kg x10

REVERSE FLYES

2 x 15 1/2kg x10
2 x 15 1/2kg x10
2 x 15 1/2kg x10

Supersetted with some behind the back upright rows (26kg 3x10). Just trying these out really. Did feel something in the rear delts after this. Not sure if I'll do these regularly though

Shoulder dislocates 4 x 10

Front squat holds: 3 x 35 seconds

Good workout. Overhead press shows no sign of slowing down. Most I've ever pressed is 77kg for five, so if I can match that for eight reps I'll be happy. Not far off 80kg either

Quite a muggy day. Just been to HMV where I purchased the new Sun Kil Moon record, and a King Tubby anthology - can't beat a bit of dub reggae

Quick song: 'Roast Fish and Corn Bread' by Lee 'Scratch' Perry:

The version I have upstairs is slightly different, featuring as it does a sample of a toy cow mooing. This one merely has some beeps

Sat 26th April 2008

Shoulder dislocates 4 x 10

Front squat holds 3 x 35 secs

FRONT SQUAT

30kg x12
52kg x6
87kg x4

^warm-up; first two sets done with clean grip

112kg x8
112kg x8
112kg x8

OVERHEAD SQUAT

30kg x8
30kg x8
30kg x8

ROMANIAN DEADLIFTS

112kg x8
112kg x8
112kg x8

*Hamstring stretches before each set as usual*

STANDING CALF RAISES

122kg x25
122kg x25

First set of squats felt harder than the second and third ones. Overall this felt easier than 110kg did last week. Will try 114kg next week. Back last year the most I squatted was 114kg x 5, so to rep it for 8 will make me quite happy

'Are You Smarter Than A Ten Year Old' is on in the background. I think this programme is ok, but why are there two presenters? Why does there have to be two? One of them just stands around while the other one jabbers away, so what's the point? Why not just have one? Why? WHY?

Tuneage: 'Milquetoast' by Helmet:

Mon 28th April 2008

BENCH PRESS

30kg x12
52kg x6
87kg x4

^warm-up

100kg x6
100kg x6
100kg x6
100kg x5 +1

INCLINE BENCH

82kg x8
82kg x8
82kg x8

CLOSE GRIP BENCH

76kg x8
76kg x8
76kg x8

Shoulder dislocates 4 x 10

Now that's more like it! Didn't quite get all four sets at 100kg, but not to worry, still felt good

Strength good considering I only got 5 hours sleep last night. Actually it might have even been a bit less than that

BENT OVER ROWS

^warm-up

100kg x8
100kg x8
100kg x8

BARBELL CURLS

46kg x10
46kg x10
46kg x10

Bit pushed for time so had to speed through it and miss out the shoulder dislocations afterwards

Sumo deads were fine, as ever the hardest part about them is getting the bar moving; once it's gone up the first four or five inches, lockout is a piece of p1ss

Pleased to get to 100kg for rows finally

Song today is 'Steady As She Goes' by Shellac:

2 x 15 1/2kg x10
2 x 15 1/2kg x10

Went well, weight on militarys starting to feel difficult now, but will try 77kg next week - would really like to get to 80kg for these

Did some light power cleans between sets of reverse flyes - not very heavy, about 50kg or so, using the hook grip to see how it feels

Song today: 'An Idol Is Falling' by Thoughts of Ionesco:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=25i7Kc9h3WM

Quite a scary band according to people who saw them play live

Their 'For Detroit, From Addiction' album has to be one of the best hardcore records ever made

Was really tempted to skip this session due to lack of sleep last night... but glad I didn't as it turned out to be excellent, best legs session I'd had for a while

Tried a tip that I read in fun meter's journal about holding the bar with arms very close - did seem to make the core tighten up even more and the bar felt easier to move, probably due to the improved leverage

114kg for 8... that's a PB too Nearly forgot to mention! Going to give 116kg a try next week

Overhead squats were fun - last set it really felt like I was nailing the form. I might do a few more on monday to practice if time permits

The rest of today I think I'll just lounge about not doing much. Picked up a cheap secondhand copy of Police Squad on DVD yesterday, might watch some of that. A nap is probably in order too!

No song today as youtube seems to be not working - I'm sure people reading this are very upset about that!

Nice work overall Dan. Some good linear progression. Good luck with getting the PB on the Military Press, cant see it being a problem.
