Right, I have been doing my fair share of mouthing off in the general forum these days. So with that in mind, I think it's high time I should start contributing to the site in a more pro-active manner. First some training history: Background in rugby during younger teens. Started with weights at 17, after withdrawing from Royal Marines Training. Managed to noob gain myself to 13 stone. At 18 started training with more of a strength emphasis. A couple of months later found myself training with a couple of powerlifters, who taught me how to lift maximal weights in a correct manner. I Then moved away to go to college, which found me living the ****y student lifestyle. Training took a back seat during this period. Dropped out of college after 4 months. Trained bodybuilding for the year after that, rarely venturing into 90% range. Beginning of 2007 re-started strength-training. Didn’t give much thought to per iodisation, also added in a load of unnecessary bb’ing work. As a result I kept burning myself out from not utilising de-load weeks and training at high intensity and high-volume at the same time. Had a very succesful training period Jun-Dec07. Took my deadlift from 185k to 210k and bench from 110k to 130k. I found not busting a gut trying to PR every bloody week as per my bastadized 'west-side' program called for. Later half of decemeber training went to **** as a few niggling injuries, gym closure and increased work hours caught up with me. Fortunately most of that is sorted now so I'm now running at full capacity again. Stats: Age:20 Height: 5’9 Weight: 90k Chemical status: Natural Bodyfat: Maybe too much at @15%. Not overly concerned TBH. Certainly not lean but far from chub. Current 1RM’s 150k Squat ATG, (no belt, no wraps etc) 130k Bench 210K Dead Goals (by Dec 08): 200k Squat 150k Bench 230-240K Deadlfit Back Squat sucks because I didn’t train for a long time during my bb’ing phase. I can however front squat 120k to full depth. I did this because I somehow got it stuck in my head that I would attain better results in quad hypertrophy from dropping them in favour of fr/sqts. Idiotic thing to do in retrospect. I would very much like to compete one day. I came close to signing myself up for a BDFPA southern counties qualifier. However I would certainly like to hit a 180/140/220 comfortably before I take the competitive plunge. The plan: Mon : Deadlift Tue : bench assistance Wed Thu: Squat Fri Sat : bench heavy Sun I’ve been following Olly Jackson’s deadlidt routine with great success for the last 6 months. This plan has been responsible for my 25k improvment last year. I would highly recommend it for an intermediate deadlifter. Therefore I shall run the program indefienelty till I reach 240k. For the bench I ran the Ed Coan bench cycle somewhat successfully last year. However one taked a LONG break from the 85% and upwards range when on the program, which to be honest is I think a little detrimental. With this in mind I shall instead use a 5x5, 3x5 ,3x3, 1x1 progression for now. Until I find another bench program which I like the look of!. And now we come to the squat, by far my weakest lift. For now I’m going to use the same progression as the bench. When I achieve a 5 plate aside deadlift and a 3 plate aside bench and get those milestones out the way, I will do something drastic………I will attempt the Smolov base-cycle. And there we have it in a nut-shell, what I’m doing and where I want to be. Please feel free to question and comment on my methods, form, sexuality etc. Anything and everything is welcome here. Have at it.

Saturday's Training: ME Bench barx20 60kx6 80kx3 100kx1 110kx1 120kx1 130kx1 - nice and powerful. Should have doubled it really. Basically I've been re-peaking for the 130k. So was pleasantly surprised how easy it came up. Onward to 140k. B) Decline DB bench 40kDB'sx2x8 40kDB'sx1x6 Nice'n'slow and controlled with a pause. However during last few reps of the 2nd set my right r.cuff started twinging. Took it easy next set and stopped as I edged towards failure. C) JM press 40k1x10 45k1x10 50k1x10 60k1x7 Went very strict with these during the first 3 sets. Got a bit ambitious with the 60k set and form slacked. Massive tri pump with these. Awesome. D) Kroc rows 40kDb's3x20 Not super-strict from but not 'retarded phucking a door-knob' either. Somewhere comfortably in between. E) Face pulls 3x15@20k Meh. Comments: With try 110k for 5x5 next week. Plus add in some more rotar cuff pre-hab/re-hab shizzle. Deadlifts on Monday, will attempt 205k platform pull.

Made famous by the current strongest 100k powerlifter in the world Matt Kroczaleski. He posted a vid of him doing something like 175lbs for 33 reps. A few internet warriors called him out on his form. 225x25 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7jAIdoORxI and his thoughts on them... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RF8Fpssobvc

Interesting vids there, thanks a lot for those Interesting what he said about improving on one exercise can have a knock-on effect on another exercise. I've found this to be true myself Looks like he knows what he's doing regarding form, but you always get the keyboard heroes talking sh1te. If it's not one thing it's another. If his form was perfect they'd comment on how they did 250lbs for 30 reps in high school weighing 170lbs. Oddly enough these amazing feats of strength and endurance never seem to get captured on film

ORIGINAL: Raskolnikov Great work on the PB Did you go to see the DMs in the end? Alright Dan. Yep, was a cracking night till about the 3rd from last song. I was right at the front pressed against the barrier. All of a sudden the crowd surged and I got forced over. The venue had a 'crowd-surfers will be ejected' policy nonesense(great idea when hosting a punk/hardcorre gig ) as a result I found myself being manhandled by 5 bouncers and was promptly ejected/bundled through a set of double doors into a side street! I went back round to the front entranced and got the 'no re-entry' line. Fortunately, the two staff on the door then got arguing with a drunken lad, I went for it and dived past them and got back in again! I heard shouts of "Hey!" but was already back into the crowd. Jack -1 Southampton Guildhall - 0 I managed to catch the last Murphys song which was a cover of Gang Green's 'Alcohol'. So a quick mosh ensued and in the end, I guess the end of the night didnt go so badly after all!.

12/02/08 Bench assitance Feeling a bit bruised'n'battered from last night shenannigans, but managed to get to the gym today despite only about 4 hours sleep. A) 2-board press 60kx6 80kx3 100kx3 110kx2 120kx3x3 Board presses have really helped by bench as of late. As I've always been fairly strong off my chest but lockout has always presented a bit of problem. These tend to the the job nicely. B) DB shoulder press 32.5kx3x8 No problems here. All reps nice and slow on eccentric, explosive on the concentric. C) Ext rotations 10kDb's 3x8 Comments: Should have got some lat work in really, But I was pushed for time and knackered to boot, next time. Very happy with the board presses though. Squats on Thurdsay.

I'm not bad Jack, training is a bit up and down but my lifts aren't totally shameful, they could pass as normal in a fluff gym I'm stuck in a rut, bulk to 200lbs or get as ripped as poss...grrr lol. Nice to see you still training ;)

Sounds like an awesome gig and good work on getting back into the venue after being chucked out! Stupid policy the club has, what do they expect with a band like that? The audience to be watching stood still like statues? I suspect they're paranoid about getting sued or something Mind you I have been to some shows in the past where people were really being nobs - I saw Converge a while back in Canterbury and some of the people there were just being plain violent, deliberately punching and elbowing people Never got into Gang Green... heard a couple of songs that I liked but never bought anything by them. Might have to get on souls**k at some point
