You should be comfortably good for 140 now imo - I don't think I could have done 120x5x5 when I first did it.

ME Deadlift

Week 2 OJ Deadlift routine

60kx5
100kx3
140kx1
180kx1
190kx1
190kx1

Decided to only pull two speed singles as I was anxious to get on with the platform pulls.

B) Platform pulls

195kx1
220kx1 PR

Vid here: 220k Plarform Pull PR

GRRR….. Right as you can see the lockout was fcuking sh*t. That is the first time I have EVER ramped a pull . I didn’t feel tight enough during the intial drive off the floor which caused the bar to drift which in turn caused me to round when I got the bar to knee height . Oh well, as long as I’ve strained my CNS and it’s been exposed to that weight .
It’s shame I haven’t got the vid from last fortnight’s pull as it was perfect.

Also, apologies for the retarded psych grunts .

Using my sister’s digi cam BTW, that’s how I’ve managed to get a vid this week.

Was going to do a few other exercises but was pretty pissed off/tired.

Nice. Your lock-out and shaky legs reminds me of the exact same form I use on 1RM attempts.

Hey Jack, sorry I haven't popped in for a while - my computer's not working at the moment and have hardly been on the net the last few days

Nice 220kg pull there - I thought it looked pretty good, apart from the lockout, but even that wasn't too bad - far better than most of the deadlifts posted on Youtube

Was that a bit of Sick Of It All I heard playing in the background btw?

Bench Assistance.

A) Dynamic effort bench

67.5kx3x8

8 sets of 3. Aiming for maximal speed

I was fairly explosive on most reps(and I should bloody well think so with a load this light).

B) DB Seated shoulder press

5x5@40KDB’s

Happy with that.

C) Barbell corner rows

5x10@60k

Happy with that as well.

D) Barbell Curls

4x6@50k

Some body-english here, nothing retarded though.

Comments:
I hope this speed work will pay off as it’s boring the sh*t out of me.

LOL. Funny thing was a few months ago I was watching a max-effort deadlift video of the infamous 'Diesel Weasel'. He stiff-legged the lift and the lockout was all over the place, ramping, hitching and doing the hippy-hippy leg shake thing. I remember pissing myself laughing at such a display and thought to myself 'wont ever happen to me!'. Lo and behold karma gives me a smack in the face and I'm the tard now!.

Alright Dan! Wondered where you'd got to!

As I mentioned earlier, that's the first time I've ever had a crap lockout (honest guv!). It's seems now I've joined the ranks of the rampers club, which I wish to dispell myself from with quickening haste!.

Indeed SOIA - the future is mine. There over here in the UK next month. I've got tickets for two nights on the trot. 17th April Camden Underworld and 18th April Kingston Peel. No barrier at either gig. It's going to be mayhem! I cant bloody wait!.

Right, apologies for the conspicuous lack of updates, Thursday and Friday were hellishly busy. I couldnt get to the gym on either of those two days. As such, I drove into town Saturday morning with the idea of doubling up and squatting and benching in the same session. I pull up into the car-park and see it suspiciously devoid of any other vehicles. I walk up to gym entrance and see a hastily scribbled note on the inside of the door saying 'Gym closed 5th April', just that, neither explanation nor apology. The sign wasn’t up on when I was last in the gym which was Tuesday. I am pretty pissed off about this, I pay top quid for a membership and the gym's opening times are sporadic as it already is. As a result I had to double up on training on the Sunday. Thing is, the gym is only open 4-6pm on a Sunday AND I start work at 5 Sunday evening. As a result I only had half an hour to get my squat and benching in and had to omit any assistance exercises.

Here how it went yesterday:

06/03/08

A) Barbell full squat

Barxmany
60kx5
100kx5
120kx2
130kx1
140kx1
130x8x3

3 sets of 8 for 130k. That went to plan, thank fcuk.

B) Barbell bench

60kx5
80kx1
100kx2
110kx1
120kx1
130kx1

My wrists felt quite painful after the squatting and as a result felt a bit unstable holding the bar whilst benching. Therefore aborted the attempt of 130k for 3x3 and instead opted for a heavy single. I was pushed for time anyway so needed to leave it at that.

Comments:
Pissed off at the last few days events and how they subsequently affected training. That is life I guess.

07/03/08

I knew that squatting hard yesterday would have an affect on today’s deadlifting performance. Fortunately though I managed to get though my main sets and only the rack pull’s suffered from a strength drop-off.

A) Deadlift

60kx
100kx3
140kx1
180kx1
195kx2x4

These were quite tough and draining today. I suppose it was to be expected having squatted less than 24 hours previously.

B) Rack pull

100kx5
140kx1
180kx1
220kx1
240kx1(failed on 2nd rep)

Just had no energy left at this point.

C) Leg curl

25K@5x8

Comments:
Not a horrendous session I suppose. Have managed far better though.

Very tired now though.

120kg for 5 x 5 is decent benching.

How long do you rest between sets on 5 x 5 routines?

Ah, the joys of having a gym in the garage! Always open for business...

Considering you were pushed for time that's some impressive squatting and benching right there

Not long now! A friend of mine once drove SOIA around the UK on a tour a few years back. Apparently they were all really swell guys. He's registered disabled because he injured his back in an accident at work years ago and can't work anymore. So he drives bands around nowadays

I don't, and you know what?, warming up on the bench when the wrists started giving me grief I thought to myself "Gee, I sure wish I had some wrist wraps ".

I think I've seen a few pics/vids of your squatting in wrist wraps Rick. I take it they do help in nipping any potential wrist problems in the bud?

I think I should whip out the ol'mastercard and get myself a pair. Where did you purchase yours mate?

At least 3 mins. No point in trying to rush it or 'increase training density' or other such w@nk.

Cheers mate. Just read in your journal you having a deload week, I wish I had time to factor in a proper one in myself, but I think I've shot myself in the foot with these missed seesions and subsequent catch up!. Oh well, when I dl 230k and bench 140k I'll have a think about it!.

Your mate drove for SOIA? That's awesome. Yeah I've had a brief exchange of pleasantries with them after a few gigs and they come across as real gentleman. More lads like them needed in music!
Yes, i'm counting the days now! You should try and get to one of them Dan! That would be epic beyond words!

I got mine from bpsports.co.uk who were excellent. Mine are the dead short Inzers, I don't feel I need any more than that.

On the bench they give me some stability on the heavier work and definitely help control any little sorenesses. On heavy squats I would really struggle to manage without them - my relatively narrow grip puts some pressure on the wrists and my flexibility there isn't great, and they really really help. I also wear them tight on near-max DLs to reinforce the grip.

I basically wear them from the first non-empty-bar warmup on my heavy squat and bench days, and I don't use them at all on my light days. That seems to work pretty well for me. I really wouldn't want to do without them.

Thanks for that info Rick.

bpsports.co.uk? Gotcha. I'll have a gander over on that site.

Avoiding injury is very high on my list of priorities right now!.

Fcuking sh*t day today unfortunately. I could only manage the speed benching and honeslty had no oompf during that. Was honestly to knackered to clean the DB's into position for shoulder presses. I am tired, depressed and very pissed off .

Being forced to compact my training over the last few days has put me well out of sync. Going to take tomorrow off as planned and squat on Thursday.

It's sometimes better to miss a session than to try to squeeze them in to a shorter time, yeah.

Avoiding injury = win. Having a plan and sticking to it while working hard = win. Look at Pete, these are the secrets of his success (along with, of course "get a good coach, stop thinking and do as you're told"), and he's quite good. I'm trying the same strategy myself :).

It dawned on me that I've had 5 months of heavy lifting, increasing the weight each week, without a break or backing off or anything. So a week of taking it easy seems like a good idea

I think you've got the 140kg bench in you already if I'm honest, and the 230kg dead can't be far off

He's moved to Brighton now so I haven't seen him for ages. He's driven for quite a few other bands too, one of them - can't remember what they're called - supported the Offspring. Apparently they were a complete bunch of businessmen, just talking constantly about money. The guitarist was the only one who seemed alright

If I had some cash I'd be at one of those shows like a shot! It's been a while since I went to a show up in London. I'm entitled to a small tax rebate but I don't think I'm going to get it in time
