Where to begin?.....
Age: 40
Gender: Female
Weight: 63.1
Height: 1.77
BMI: 20.14
BF%: 27%

Squats: 50kg 3x8
Flat Bench 40kg 3x8
Deadlift 50kg 3x8 - 90kg 1RM

Used to spend alot of time at circuit classes and spinning classes both of which I enjoy. Have done a moderate amount of running not my favourite thing but can turn up and do a 10k without too much of problem. Certainly not the speediest of runners but have done a sub 50min -10k (with alot of hard work)
Always wanted to have a six pack and really wanted one by my 40th but didn't quite make it. boo hoo!
Then husband started teaching me to use free weights. He's a PT btw. At first it felt odd not sweating buckets and being breathless for 50 mins when training but I've seen the light. My body has certainly started to change shape which I have to say I find fascinating.

I'm loving becoming stronger it really makes a difference. I even go to the gym now and enter the inner sanctum that is the "free weight area" without feeling intimidated.

Hoping to lose some BF and build some muscle but not too much. Still want to look feminine and still want to be fit. Want to walk the walk and talk the talk!

Have found loads of your journals really interesting and quite inspirational at times.

Also learning the front crawl this year which is sooooo hard.

Done a spin class this week, boxercise tonight, swim lesson wed and then some weights Thurs.

Went for my swim lesson on Wed - we did backstroke which wasn't too bad actually.
Drank most of the pool but did feel like I was travelling quickly through the water which felt good. If only I could do that on my front!
Felt like I had a workout.

Gym last night.
Legs and Back;

DB static lunges 10kg 4x8
Leg Ext 39kg 3x8 - 43kg 1x8
Calf Raises on Leg Press Machine 200lb 1x15 220lb 2x15
Leg Curl 39kg 3x8 - 43kg 1x6
WGC with assistance @ 15 - 3x8
Single Arm DB Row 22.5kg 3x8
DB Pullover 17.5kg 3x8 - 20kg 1x6
Biceps DB 10kg 3x8

Legs quite achey today which feels nice.

Hi Puss

I see you've got the Static Lunges going - well done - judging by your other weights I reckon you could comfortably up the weight on them - maybe try with a Barbell?

Keep perservering with the Swimming - the technique will come soon enough, and it should be a good antidote to the heavy weights!

Will keep an eye on your progress (if that's okay )...

Sam

Thanks for your input Sam.

Yeah I'd like to try with a BB but the gym I go to is quite small and was busy last night so I didn't get a look in with the BB.
Maybe something to try at home.

When you say 10kg for the static lunge is that total or 10kg dumbells in each hand? I do agree with Sam that you could possibly up this and I personally find using a BB helps immensely.

Hello Puss - another journal for me to read...phew! Well done for starting one - one of the best training aids I have at the moment!

Agree that barbell easier than hand held dumb bells as the weight increases, anything over 12.5kg in each hand and I drop them on my toes - my grip is appalling and I find that the barbell is a god send!

Kitty - Yeah it was 10kg in each hand. I realise that a BB would be easier but I couldn't use a BB last night. Believe it or not there is only one at my gym and the Bicep Boys were using it like a tag team.
I'll just have to toughen up a bit or wait until I can do tham at home.
Feel it in my legs today I can tell ya.

Chrissie - Nice of you to visit. I'm following your progress with interest can't wait to see the next pics!
I'm really impressed how you've thrown yourself into this malarkey, your enthusiasm is quite infectious.

Puss, keep at it - are you going to post some photos in your journal? Seems like a really stupid thing to do at first - but believe you me, the motivational push they give you is awesome! I also have my pics on my iPhone so whe I feel a bit down, tired or just plain bored of it all, I can flick through them and remember just why I am doing this!

Legs, Back and Biceps today...

Squats: 20kg 3 x 20 - found these tough even though the weight was fairly moderate

B/B Static Lunges: 20kg 1x10 - 30kg 3x10

SLDL: 20kg 1x12 - 40kg 3x10

T Bar Rows: +10kg 1x12 - +20kg 3x10

EZ Bicep Curls: 18kg 2x10

Legs a bit wobbly after static lunges - Maybe had something to do with night out on the lash celebrating friends Bday!

Spinning last night. 45mins of intervals.
Hard on legs but not impossible.
Really enjoyed class.

Feeling a bit heavy at the mo - I don't like it

May do boxercise tonight see how I feel later.
