RE: tinned tuna, it is cooked prior to being tinned and loses its oil through cooking. AKAIK anyway! Walnuts contain about 2:1 omega 6 to omega 3 IIRC, so although a good source of fat, it won't bring the 3 to 6 balance in kilter.

ORIGINAL: tristram the problem with O3 is no one sees the need for it. ive never eaten an oily fish in 21 years of living. i started taking O3 a couple weeks ago, i feel the same and look the same. i still do not see the benefit, but i will take it anyway as i know its required. Give it time. Fat-soluble nutrients take more than 2 weeks to take effect. Keep at it and you will soon be as clever as Zeke "the geek" Kinsky (not that I'm suggesting that you're not already clever, of course) The effect of omega-3 on mood appears so slowly that you may not even notice it. Even Prozac takes 4 weeks to have an effect FYI. i see nige. i started at the right time then, because in just over a month ive got exams coming up!

I asked about the tinning process and it's effect on O3 in another thread. I eat a lot tinned makerel in tom sauce , according to the tin it has 6.2g of omega 3 per 100g. Can I be happy that this is correct and that it's 'undamaged' ? Also I noticed today that Princes claim to have 6.2g of O3 per 100g in their makerel while Asda's own only claim 4g per 125g , why would this be ? Sorry I'm a little obsessed about my makerel at the mo

One of the things that made me stay about at MT when I 1st joined was how I could ask a question, EVEN if it had been covered before. People all lead differant lives and sometimes they just want to ask the same question as others anyway as they are un-sure if the differances in there life are significant enough to mean a differant answer. Or maybe they need it putting into a context they can understand. Why not post up the link if you think it's relevant. Seems much more friendly than saying use the search function. I understand the frustration but if all we did was search and use old information from previous questions/articles there would be minimal discussion, out of the thousands of repeated posts sometimes there's something that catches your eye. Overall I'd rather keep it the way it is than let it become less of a dicussion forum and more of a guide or knowledge database. No problem if it's decided to become stricter with covering frequant topics. This is just my individual opinion.

I don't mind someone starting a new thread that is specific to them (as everyone has a different diet, activity & metabolism), but sometimes a question is asked when the answer is just a few posts below on the same page. If the answer is a few pages back, I wouldn't mind, as I don't expect posters to wade through page after page of threads. A little light reading before asking a question wouldn't go amiss. I think that a sticky which answers basic questions and which has a guide to posting diet & training would help (HINT! ).

The problem with newsletters (and I am as guilty of this as everybody else) is that once read, they're soon forgotten and I don't make a habit of searching through back-issues. How about a sticky (a bit like there used to be) "Read this first before posting" with all of the above hints & tips in? Which was why I created this: http://www.muscletalk.co.uk/articles-index.aspx to section all articles into relevent groups. This makes all articles easy peasy to find.

Sorry I'm a little obsessed about my makerel at the mo I eat loads of tinned mackerel in tomato sauce, about 10 tins a week at a guess. I love them with salt & vinegar Pringles. Looking at a Princes tin now.. the figure they give is 4.3g of O3 per 10g? But that's still more than the asda variety you quote... The difference might be due to the amount of mackerel/sauce in each tin.

As people are still asking questions that are answered on this site and still posting diets that are lacking in omega-3 fats, BUMP! Read posts #1 & #2.
