I've been visiting these forums for quite a while now and have decided to start a journal finally.

Im 18, weigh 71kg and am about 180cm's.
Have been lifting for a couple of months without a diet so I'm wanting to definitely get serious about it now.
Looking to bulk up, just put on some lean fat and muscle and see from there.

STARTED CREATINE (Mono)
April 8th: 72.3KG
April 15th: 73.1KG
April 22nd: 74.1KG - Must be the creatine :S. Really don't feel like ive put on that much fat or muscle
April 29th: 73.8KG - Did expect it as my diet was shocking on fri, sat, sun

June 24th: 77.1KG
July 1st: 77.7KG back on track
July 8th: 78.0KG

Diet consists of 6 meals a day and goes along the lines of something like this:

Haven't include PWO shake which includes 25g dextro/25g malto/30g whey.
Dinner is different every day but its of those kind of servings.

Diet and routine looking good mate. Maybe swop the whey in the last meal to quark and mix it with your yogurt and some flavoring like options powder or some coco powder?

Anyway good luck with the journal and training.

john_cappa - thanks mate! will drop in to yours every now and then to see how things are going.

swift - Mondays and Fridays I train around 4.30 pm and wednesdays I don't get to train till around 8 pm unfortunately which ends up making me miss my 9pm meal and I dont think my tub of yoghurt and whey in milk is a very great PPWO meal before bed :S.

riocat - Will have a look at quark/cottage cheese maybe. Have tried cottage cheese before but I couldn't eat it as it tasted disgusting. And to get as much protein through quark/ cottage cheese as you would with the whey, you would have to eat quite a bit...
Isn't the whey in the last meal good though as it gives you a lot of protein wheres the milk/yoghurt gives you the fats?

You want a slow digesting protein at bed to see you through the night while you are alseep, A tub of quark has about 30g of protein and mixing it with your yogurt it will increase the protein content further. I agree cotage cheese is but quark when mixed with anything sweet and blended just ends up tasteing like milk shake, honestly

There is also a suppliment containing slow digesting protien. I think it's called Casiene. Might be wrong, but there is one I'm sure.

Like your routine.

I'll drop in every now and then to see how it's going.

Good Luck

Thanks mate. Have been following your journal for a while now. Really impressed with the gains!
Will have a look at quark and casein supplements to see which one will work out cheaper.

Friday April 4th

BACK/BI'S

Starting with some more reps on the rack deadlifts till I build up some proper strength and I wanna be careful as I screwed up my lower back a while ago doing deadlifts and squats which meant I couldn't even walk properly for a couple months either. Using a belt to reinforce lower back.

Rack deadlift - 51KG 8 - 10 - 10 - 10 - will start lowering reps and upping weight every week
Cable rows - 55KG 8 - 6 - 5
Chins 5-5-4-4-3
Barbell Curls 18KG - 10 - 10 - 6 - My forearms seemed to get really tight and I reckon if they weren't, I could have probably done a bit more. Does a EZ curl bar help with this?

The forearm work is based on this: http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/8%20weeks%20to%20bigger%20forearms%202.htm

Reverse curls 10KG 10-10
SUPERSETTED
Hammercurls 7.5KG 10-7
Hold dumbells 30sec - 20sec
Straight after each superset I get a 4.75KG dumbell in each arm and hold it in a 90 degree position so theres max tension on my forearms
Wrist curls 10KG 10/4

Pretty decent workout today.

Interesting stuff mate.

You shouldn't be hurting yourself squatting and deadlifting and (IMHO) shouldn't need a belt yet or you're never going to sort it out and build up the core strength. Is there anyone clued up at your gym who can show you correct form?

http://www.myprotein.co.uk/bulk-powders/protein-powders/milk-protein-concentrate/ Milk protein concentrate is about the slowest digesting protein powder you can get if you don't want to eat steak/egg/quark last thing at night. Its a little dear mind.

So I've been around to several supermarkets and have also asked around for it and have come to the conclusion that quark is not being sold down under. WTF :S. Will now resort to cottage cheese if I can manage to eat it as I remember the last time I ate it I absolutely hated it.

1MR - I have been trying to do deadlifts without a belt but I'm just really scared I will screw up my back again. I think a nerve got stuck last time and wouldn't let me walk properly for a good month or two. Ever since that, I have become very unflexible which is even making it hard to put my socks and shoes on so I want to be careful. Have been looking around on the net for videos etc to get my form perfect.

Some good news today, I have put on about a kilo since last week! Was around the 71 when I started and now weigh 72.3KG straight after getting out of bed. Will update every week regarding my weight.

Will post last nights workout later on tonight or tomorrow depending on when I get time to.

Just tried cottage cheese as my before bed meal. God that stuff tastes horrible. Thinking of blending it in the mixer with a scoop of icecream or something. It cant be that bad to have icecream can it?

cottage cheese is rank

any slow release protein will be fine before bed including any meat, egg or milk protein

Many will say supplments such as egg or milk protein are too expensive but add up the cost off having a tub of cottage cheese every night or 100g of meat for a month and there will be little to choose between the cost, check my journal for the shake i use at night

an awful lot of arm work? and complex stuff at that? Keep it simple

Hard and heavy on your deads/rack pulls, chins, pulldowns and rows and then a small bit on the biceps should be plenty

And yeah the EZ car will relieve the "tightness" in your forearm

It is "fine" but a slower absorbed protein would be "better" IMO
