Golden Oldie, there's someone called Martin who has your exact same lifts over at Sugden, although he's a lot less funny than you are.

Good luck mate.
Any predictions or aspirations before you go?

Thanks. I'm opening 192.5. My basic aspiration is not to bomb! I could do a safe 180, but if that was all I got it would be totally shallow anyway, so I'm going to open on 192.5 and take it from there.

It's all about how you are on the day. Travelling to distant shores and totally focussing on lifting can be inspirational. But a strange bed, a different diet, all the travelling, stricter judging, etc. can also have a detrimental effect. This'll be my third IPF Worlds. I really enjoyed the other two, but didn't lift to full potential at either. Same at the WDFPF Worlds in Italy. I won the 50+, but was totally flat on the day. So it's either time for a change, or more of the same.

I love the buzz of an IPF Worlds, so I'll enjoy myself whatever happens. But I've got a better shirt than last time, I've been training smarter, so maybe this is the one I'll click at.

i predict 192.5/202.5/207.5

I'll go 202 if I get the 192. If I get 202 (which will be amazing) I'll look at what I need to get third place if everyone ahead of me fails third lifts.

I know the guy you mean, young Ted. I actually think he's much funnier than me - but then he can get away with far more over there than I can on here, so maybe it's not a fair comparison.

Keep this to yourself, but I actually think the guy's a bit of a c*nt!

Good luck with the comp mate.

Just back from World Masters. Full report to follow via a link to my blog once I get the chance to write it up and upload pictures. Just to let you know that I opened on 192.5, got a 2:1 fail, went 192.5 again and got a 2:1 pass, then tried for a British record 202.5 but it just wasn't there on the day. Too soon after the British, I guess, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.

Thanks, mate. Not sure yet. Probably the BWLA British Raw Bench 1st June, but no more peaking until the run up to the WDFPA Worlds in October. Everything before that just gets treated as a 1RM training day.

More blogging to do this week, but I've been having a long think about my training methods. I'm trying to peak for too many comps, I've decided. From now on, I peak twice a year - the IPF Worlds in April and the WDFPF Worlds in October. All other competitions will be glorified training sessions in which I test 1RMs.

On my ME day, I'm going for more volume/reps. I'm going to start off with 5 sets of 8 with 120 and build it up 2.5 kilos a week. Then I'll use 1 band with the same weight and do 5 sets of 3. Hopefully come mid July I'll be close to 140 on the bar. On my DE day I plan to keep the weight to about 110 and do 9 sets of 3 using 3 different grip widths. Then I'll get 2 bands on, drop the weight to 80, and do another 10 3s - 5 normal and 5 narrow. I'm also going to work my biceps a bit from now on, if only to fill the shirt a bit better.

Every three or four weeks, I'll interrupt the schedule and get a shirt on so the CNS doesn't forget how to cope with the heavy stuff.

I want to stay at 100, but move the bulk around a bit, so I might even do a few cable flyes and the like as well. Tonight will be an attempt on 120 x 8 x 5, but I don't think I'm properly over the trip yet, so it might turn into something a bit tamer.

Probably shouldn't have trained tonight. Almost fell asleep between sets. Warm up, then,

120 for 8 x 5 sets
120 + 1 band for 3 x 3 sets.

Actually very pleased with that, all things considered. Upping it 2.5 kilos next week.

Am i right in seeing 1 red there?
Why would that be? Looked fine apart from the left not locking out the same time as the right, could you get a fail on that?

Yes, there was one red. We think it was for downward movement, but not 100% sure. The judges seemed to be interpreting momentarily stopping (which is allowed) as downward movement (which is not). If it had been pronounced uneven extension, the head ref would have failed it, but the red came from one of the sides. All I can say is that you go to the worlds knowing that the judging will be strict and it's the same for everyone.

Tonight's workout.

Lat Pulldowns - 5 sets of 10 with 10 plates
Seated T Bar Row (Hammer Grip) - 5 sets of 10 with 10 plates
Facepulls - sets of 10 with 6, 7, 8, 9, 10
Cable curls - sets of 10 with 4, 5, 6, 5, 4
Hammer Curls - 5 sets of 10 with 10 kilo dumbells
Reverse Flyes - 5 sets of 10 with 6 plates.

Still feeling really tired and rundown. Either after effects of Bratislava, or a cold coming on. Curls were a bit painful on the elbow, so I kept them light. Not done them properly for a long time. When I smashed up my leg I got a double fracture of the arm as well and curls hit the spot deep in the elbow from time to time. Nice to be doing lightish weights for a change. I think I like deloads!
