In the articles I read fruit was recommended first to fill up the liver glycogen stores then white pots after that. I dont know why white pots were chosen over a lower GI carb such as sweet pots but thats what I read.I look forward to other replies as my mate is doing the NABBA Northern soon and his heads in tatters about this issue

Let's not encourage topics off the board please - if you need people to look at a topic email them the URL. Forums are for sharing information not for taking to private email. It depends on which carbs are used when and what condition you're in. The first carb after the last workout pre show, should be a simple carb, like dextrose. Then I advocate low GI carbs regularly for the two days in modest portions - basmati rice, oats and sweet potato (hot) are great choices. The final carbs depends on where you're at

Hi mate, i like to use porridge oats all the way through the load, when water is dropped night before i eat oats and sweet potatoes, its really dry but nice even though it sounds manky!Cant really explain it but think these act like sponge and help draw more water into muscles, where we want it and not under skin! Main thing i think is not to use something that you havnt used during your comp diet as you wont know how your body will respond to it. And obviously dont "spill over" with the carbs, keep checking yourself regularly in the mirror, its a very delicate process and i myself have blew 12wks of dieting in 3days of loading, nightmare! When you say white rice and rice cakes didnt work as well as you would of liked, were you still flat or did ya spill over?have you logged everything you were eating etc for future reference?i know its a stupid question but are you sure you were fat free before going into the load as people make mistake of thinking fat is water retention and vice versa. I was talking to Ian Morgan pro bodybuilder yesterday about this very subject as imyself am competing again in 9wks.He said you dont need to deplete and load anymore, its sort of old school and a lot of competitors now when ready a few wks before the show just cruise into it keeping everything the same.If it aint broke dont fix it attitude! He also mentioned he doesnt even manipulate his water, just the night before the show drops it out and thats it!It is though a very personal thing and you must find what works for you mate, good luck! Pagan what class is your mate in as im going to that show and will give him a shout!

OK I have more time now Good post DL645 quote:

The reason for the 'sponge' is that for every 1g of muscle gylcogen, another 3g of water is also taken up into muscle. This 1) helps the muscle look fuller, and 2) takes water from around the muscle and makes you look drier. quote:

Not unheard of and I do worry about every client I have doing this. It's fine tuning and very individual. I generally encourage carbs cut between 3-4pm on the day prior to the show, but it depends on how the loading is going quote:

Good advice quote:

The thing with depletion is that every precomp BBer is really already depleted as they have been on low carbs for weeks more than likely. So I keep carbs steady during this period, and just alter exercise to suit. Then in loading carbs needn't be huge, but they need to be regular and no exercise. He's lucky if he doesn't manipulate water - he knows himself best, but many would mess up if they didn't Definitely personal. And a diary for the last 10 days is highly recommended

Thanks for all the replies lads.especially deadlift and James. Last show I came in flat. I think I'm going to go with oats and sweet potatoe.I have been using these alot during my last 10 wks dieting.I haven't much fat left at all but am holding water.I will manipulate water though and use a herbal diuertic along with Vit C. I'll let you know how it works out for me.. Thanks again, jnr

I pretty much only eat oats during my contest prep but I know it does blow me up a little so I change to potato for the last week and my 2 day load. Like James has says, simple carb after last depleted workout although I go with Vitargo here then potato all the way through and maybe porridge as my last meal for the fibre before I cut off. Trouble with potato is though you need to have it warm/just cooked. This isnt always feesable depending on your situation. I have just started prep for a show and was considering a journal this time, maybe
