I have been supplementing with HMB since I started my comp prep however have noticed a deterioration in my complexion over the past couple of weeks. Would it be the HMB causing it do you think, or is a spotty chin the price you pay for getting into shape for the stage?!

The only way to know is to stop the use of it & see if the spots go...

Could the extra sweat not be causing it now that you're working more intensely?

I was just going to post something similar Kitty, when I first started training properly my skin went terrible !

I bought some clearsil face wipes and used them on my face right after each session and it cleared it up

Malika - did cross my mind however I don't know why the HMB would have this effect. In truth, I cannot honestly say it is working it's magic as I upped everything else at the same time as starting it and corrected my nutrition!

Kitty and Welshy, yes, extra 'glow' as I like to call it (ladies don't sweat, do they?) may be the cause. I have quite dry skin and find topical spot treatments just cause me to shed like a snake!!! Feel a trip to Dr Dick the Derm Doc (his real name!) coming on and maybe treating self to a facial or two!

Just another thought, would stopping the HMB now have any negative effect if indeed it is working, even slightly?

I don't take HMB Chrissie and I don't think it's harmed my training etc , not a supplement I've looked into to be honest

HMB is good to use when your body is under more stress than usual, (eg when dieting and doing all that cardio ) prevents catabolism

ive used it dieting but then i've also dieted without it and not really noticed any difference

The evidence that HMB prevents catabolism is purely anecdotal and marketing and the studies are poor. Personally I do not rate it at all.

However I doubt it is the cause of your spotty chin.

Try drinking more water and less processed food. The misses gets this if she eats poorly (which is regularly LOL).

Have you upped milk and dairy products too? If so this may well be the cause of the spots

BLOODY big - could double as torpedos on hubby's sub I'm finishing the pot I have, but not getting more. I'll just stick to the Glut, creatine and Tribulus - unless I'm advised otherwise.

Well, it can't be the crap diet to blame, that's for certain!

Am still taking the HMB however the spots do seem to have died down a bit!

I see the curse of the cyber acne has made it onto the General forum!!

Interesting to see it from a bloke's perspective. Also interesting that most of the replies suggest a script for antibiotics.

Do you think as women, therefore prone to more hormonal fluctuations that can cause spots we take it for granted that we will get the odd one or two? Or is it that we can choose to wear make up to cover said spots up????

Do you clense and moisturise your skin regularly?
How about instead of using soap use aquious cream? <spellings bad>
i sometimes get awful acne, not always down to my forbidden chemicals i put into my system, but when im looking like a teenager i use quinoderm which sorts my little friends out within days. But this may be a little harsh on your skin if its very sensitive.
