I dont think it is harsh to tell someone that they are carrying an average amount of bodyfat mate. 15-20% is touching on the realms of fantasy . agreed I would say he is in the region of 25%

I also think in general people underestimate how much fat they are actually carrying I am currently dieting, at 16 stone i had less body fat than the original poster and have dieted down to 14 stone and I still can't really see my abs yet

True - the problem with forums like these are you sometimes get sucked into the backslapping mentality and often rather than call a spade a spade, say nothing or worse, say something nice for fear of offending someone as the truth may not be what the poster wants to hear. Integra, I know you're not one to beat around the bush or be backwards in coming forwards so your comments aren't in fact harsh nor mean. If you want strangers to comment on your physique you'd better be prepared for what they say. 15lean - your sig states BF at 18%ish so I'm presuming you haven't had this accurately measured and that figure is more a guesstimate. I think it's time to update your signature, or at least sort your diet and training out so it becomes accurate.

ORIGINAL: Integra The percentage of mass which is bodyfat is very high. How? There's a bit of fat on the stomach and the rest is lean, 20%+ is for fat people. MM I think you need to look harder. He has fat elsewhere, plus i dont see his wheels or back either. Im around 15% in my avatar You have thick visible adds and I know that abs tend to come out like that at 12-13% bf so I think you are less than 15% IMO. MM

To the OP - Whatever the debate about 'bodyfat%', remember it's just bodyfat as a ratio to the other components of your mass, fact remains you look fairly lean to me with a bit of fat to shift on the stomach and maybe in other areas. But all in all you look fairly lean, I mean you don't have much lats yet there's a V-Taper there, that's all there is to say IMO. MM

ORIGINAL: theiopener Integra would you say my assumption of me being 15% is accurate? From the pictures available via the MT shapeup threads I would lean towards 20 mate. In terms of bodyfat% as measured by the tool commonly known as the www.muscletalk.co.uk device it would be 15-ish. As said earlier in the thread many fall into the trap of underestimating the amount of bodyfat they are carrying, which is a shame because it usually ends up with a person being either discouraged or offended. Because of the lack of readily available equipment which can accurately measure the amount of bodyfat one is carrying, the holygrail of lowering BF% is not one anyone should follow. Combination of mirror, tape measure, honest friends and documented training progress is far more useful.

GENERAL QUESTION Do people tense in these photos? When you say "visible abs" is that visible if you tense or if you are relaxed?

Thanks for being honest at least i know what i have to work on. I dont know how anyone can be offended to be honest as there was no insult present just an honest opinion quote:
