Small hijack but it saves making another thread! Nige - you talk a lot about Lyle M's work on here now and I was just wondering if you've read any of his books (particularly the UD 2.0) and, if so, what you though of them? Cheers!
I've read his Rapid Fat Loss Handbook 1 and thought that it was very thorough and well-researched. The more time I spend on his fora, the more impressed I am with his knowledge. He doesn't suffer fools gladly, though!

What are you saying!?

(Cheers - I best stay clear!)

I was thinking, if big meals = digest slow and feed us over long period of time and small meals = Feed us till digested/used.

Would big meals be better for active people who can't eat often during the day and NEED energy always e.g. builders.

Where as small meals be best for inactive people who dont need constant fuel as a priority, since when we're inactive arn't our fat stores used a bit when we have no food in our stomachs? e.g office worker.

Are you saying this is flawed logic, or are you talking about "youd not see the difference between applying this and not" with regaurd to progress pictures.

Second one really. Im only interested in tangible results and differences not what looks good on paper.

Its about nutrient makeup more than total calorie intake IMO anyway

I'd say both we're very important. Calories is afterall, what gets you a surplus that gives us growth.

Intresting debate.

I think the reason Serge and his elite buddies can eat twice and still look so good is because they are elite.
My body changed for the better when I sorted my diet out with smaller regular high protein feeds in the same old tried and tested way.

There are a few well known competitors at my gym and they all eat like babies... every 2 hours. If there was a better way I'm sure they would be doing it.
The timings are vital IMO.

No. Only in extreme cases e.g. 10P/80C/10F would fat/muscle change because protein intake is insufficient. As long as proteins and EFAs are sufficient, what makes up the rest of the Calories makes no difference to body comp if Calories are controlled.

If Calories are uncontrolled, anything can happen.

so nige you personally believe that 3 meals compared to 6meals per day is exactly the same if the p/c/f and calories exactly the same, and weight/muscle/fat will all be identical with either 3 meals or 6 meals?

and i also agree.
the human body has evolved over thousands of years do you really think you can trick it into losing more fat by eating the same amount of cals over a day,but in smaller meals why???.
the studies i have posted agree it doesnt matter how many meals a day as long as the cals/protein/carbs/fats are the same the results will be the same.

for two months i decided to eat 6 meals a day,after that i split those 6 meals a day into two meals a day,when i started i was 15st 7lbs after 4 months i was still 15st 7lbs

IMO i would rather have 3 mansize meals a day than 6 tiny portions, and you dont have to get anal about timings etc.

Do not forget that Serge was training 3 hrs at a time non stop, twice/day, so having 2 big meals rather than 5-6 small meals suited him...

(Great debate!)

So... whats the deal with eating 6x a day then?
James is a professional and other professionals state it, why then?

It was my belief that digestion times we're fairly fast and proteins couldnt be stored (like carbs can be) so we had to eat to keep a steady flow of protein in our system. If this isn't the case, why am i cutting up my day with breaks to go and eat?

We seem to be rendering a 'basic 101 of bodybuilding rule' obselete, so i think the discussion should continue - It feels like we just said god doesnt exsist

mainly comfort when it comes to ingesting serious amounts of calories, that and provides more pleasure for people who do enjoy eating

Wow im actually quite shocked, i guess it just shows we should be quizzing things and not blindly following them.

3 (or 4) meals a day would suit me much better when cutting, not thinking about eating and being able to get on with life is more of a priority. Guess ill give it a few weeks and see how i feel, dam i still feel like a sinner.

4 meals a day and maybe a protein shake PWO suits me fine.

The only rules in bodybuilding I follow are train, eat , rest , repeat
