I am striving to bench 300lbs (136.5kg's) but don't want to try before I am ready and fail.

Currently I bench 100kg x 10 reps.

I am thinking when I can bench 100kg for 12 good clean reps I will be ready.

What do you think?

Thanks

Not imo , when I was doing 100kx10 my best 1rep max was 125k. I think I'd need to be doing at least 110k x10-12 before I could do 140k

Saying that everyon eis different

Thanks Pagan,

will be close then with 100kg x 12...

Might give it a bit longer though.

Did you succeed on your first 300lbs attempt?

No ! I was shooting for 140k aka 3 twenty plates a side as opposed to 300lbs and I got 135k but not 140k I reckon I might have got 300lbs.

tbh I find high reps don't correlate at all to a 1rm. Maybe when you think you might be ready (if you don't want to attempt it; I think you should just go for it though), do a set of 3 one week. You'll be able to judge better from there

I don't think increasing your max reps at 100 by another 2 is going to have much, if any, effect on your 1RM. I'd be looking to manage 120 for at least a triple before trying for 300lbs.
good luck.

Going by my training, I'd be lucky to hit 130kg (no chance with 140) as a 1RM if I could only triple 120kg. I think you need to be tripling 130kg to have a chance of hitting 140kg as a 1RM (140kg being 308lbs).

you're probably right, I've always had a high 1rm compared to reps.
I was tripling 130 last week and intend to go for a (at least:) 150 1RM this week, and expect to manage it easily enough

next week do 120kg for some reps. if you get more than say 5 reps.
following week go for 130kg for a few reps. if you get 3 or more reps with this. Then go for 136kg.
if you get 2 or less reps with 130kg. i say your not get 136 for a few more week yet.

saying that if you want to lift heavy. then practise low reps.

I think benching 100kg for 12 clean reps would not equate to 300lb bench. You need to get used to lifting heavier weight for lower reps for a month say. Working upto 120kg for 5, 130 for 3 range. Would do it imo

It's just a formula that multiplies reps by weight so it doesn't mater whther you use kg or llbs

I find it useful to give a ball park figure of where you are at, I would only really use 0-10 reps in the calculator as i think it would be a bit inaccurate if i put it that i could bench 30kg for 300 reps, how much can i bench 1rm lol

Thanks for the replys.

It makes more sense to stregthen the joints and tendons and get the body used to heavier weights.

Will see how I get on with 120kg next chest session.

I did 90kg 1RM a few months ago...was my best ever...im still waiting to hit the magical 100kg.

Right now i can do 85kg x 6, so i dont think im too far off...im gona wait about another 4-6 weeks though before i attempt the 100kg, gona be so happy lol, wasnt that long ago i was stuck on 70kg and felt like i was never gona be able to lift more

Try lifting 300lbs. If you don't do it you know your not ready!

I did 125k as my 1RM when i was repping 90k for 3x8-10, so i don't think there is a direct specific correlation to 1rm and the higher reps,

But then again everyone is different.
