How much you drinking every day mate?.

I used to drink every night after work up to about 18 months ago. Then i quit drinking during the week.I was still binging at the weekends, doing around 24 beers over Sat/Sun.Now i have managed, over the last month,to cut down to 3 or 4 when i go out,and have stopped drinking at home (so far).

I hope to stick to this.I don't want to stop completely.Gives me something to look forward to.

Over the past few weeks I have been drinking 30 to 40 units per day mate. I thankfully no longer have the tolerance that I had at my worst. At my worst I would drink in excess of 50 units without fail, but I have seen slow but good improvement since those times

My aim is the same as yours. I'd like to drink one day per week, socially, and indeed I have achieved this many times recently (not this month obviously, this has just been a bad month for me)

Onwards and upwards for all of us eh!

Well a very bad day today. I didn't drink or even want to drink but have been wrestling all day with the thought that I can never drink again. Strange one. Got the FA Cup Final coming up...booked my coach, guy says "What a p8ss up this is going to be". Spoke to my mate about meeting up for the last game of the season, "Yeah we will have a few celebratory drinks"

Now this has bothered me all day as I love going out with the boys to have a drink but know that the best thing for me to do training wise and life in general wise is to cut the booze out totally.

This is the life of someone with a drink problem, it takes over your life even if you are not drinking. I know what I have got to do (not drink for either occasions) but saying it and doing it is a different matter altogether.

Hopefully this thread will help me closer to the time.

Cheers lads

Good luck mate. Reading about you and the other guys who've posted about this stuff over recent years has been of interest to myself and many others too I am sure

I still remember the great response I got to the thread I posted when I first admitted to myself that I had a drink problem. I have improved a lot since then, and I know you have improved a lot since your worst too

That has to be a positive thing

Well done Drab just keep dodging away, Cardiff itll get to the stage where you dont even notice it albeit may force some small or monumentous changes in your life to stay sober but only you can make those choices.

Yeah cheers lads. I know Colin mate and I hope it will get easier. Put it this way at the beginning of this battle the last occasion I thought I would have to contend with was an FA Cup final

So Drab mate. What are we aiming for in terms of length of soberness? You say you eventually want to control it but what is your initial aim as I will be with you for however long it takes mate.

Nice one

I am still in and sober, my mate is in hospital from alcohol and the doc says if he carries on drinking as bad as he does he will be dead in 4 years. Well that helps me stay on the wagon.

Immediate aim is just to stay sober again today mate. So far so good but the day is far from over.....

One day at a time is all you can aim for mate.No point trying to make over ambitious goals. With a problem like yours it won't be easy.I initially just started by cutting down the amount i was drinking each night. Then i started reducing the days during the week until i stopped completely except for weekends.

Best of luck mate.

Luckily i can control my drinking these days.I just don't enjoy getting slaugtered any more.I enjoy the buzz of a few beers but that's it.

Some people are all or nothing. If you think then having a few beers for the final will set you right back then it's not worth it.If you think you can have a few then get back on track then that's fine.Either way, enjoy the special day mate, and good luck.

Another day goes by . . I have come to the conclusion at the end of this day that I will never drink again

This has changed ten times during the day. I hope this gets easier as it is f8cking me right off at the moment

Hope all is well with all other abstainers.

Hope the mods don't mind this thread being bumped every day/every week but it is a big help for a lot of us on here.

For some it's best not to think of it as never having another drink ever, that thought used to scare the hell out of me.
You're just not drinking today.

No secret really mate and I won't pretend it's been easy, taking my training and diet more seriously (particularly for the shape up) has been a massive help.
Just like Colin said, think about not drinking today, that's all.
