Interesting Gentlemen.

The questions I would ask are "why can you not have a night out with an old mate you haven't seen in a while and not drink alcohol" and "why do you think it ok to drink at the last game of the season if you don't drink at the others"

I'm not knocking you but it would seem to me that you seem to regard alcohol as some sort of "reward" and as long as you continue to do so , you will only make your life harder.

just a thought

Good questions mate and ones that I doubt I will be able to 100% answer. I like the feeling of relaxing with a few beers, in this modern life with stress etc. It is kind of a reward after a hard week of work or a month of work whatever.

I do see it as a reward and if I look at it as a reward then that is better for me otherwise I see it is as a thing that I can enjoy all the time.

I will be using this thread and obviously my journal as a control method and your help will always be welcomed and appreciated mate. Back down the gym tomorrow which is good.

Cheers

Pete,as Cardifflad says,it does feel like a "reward".In the past i drunk just for the sake of it,and to get hammered.Guess i thought it made life seem better.

Now i look to the weekend as a time to unwind(if you can unwind while working 7 days a week, every week ).I enjoy the buzz 3 or 4 beers gives me.It relaxes me and is very pleasurable. And our culture revolves around pubs. And alcohol is drunk with most meals in the mediterranean.

Ill be honest about it, i enjoy myself better when drinking. If im out with friends and do not have work or matters to attend to the following morning then i know i will have a better night if i drink. Thats sad i know but its just the way it is for me.
I would say though, that if no one else drank then i maybe wouldnt drink either... Its the opposite way now, if i dont drink on a night out, im the only one and you sort of feel left out. Even though you only left out from the stupidness of drunken antics.
Its also the best way for me (imo atm) to unwind after a hard week at work.
I actually didnt drink much last night either, ive been the gym today too! Which on a sunday is a bit of a 1 off!

This might be my second day off now. It's getting quite late and there's currently no alcohol in the house

I know I'm doing crap, but it's usually a slow process for me to get back to "normal" after a bad month with the drink! Still managing to train etc, though my stomach's playing up a bit

Hope everyone else is doing good

I'm going to a barbecue at a friends house tonight.
It's within walking distance of my house so no need to drive, the food and drink will be free and I will quite possibly be the only one not drinking.
I haven't had a drink since New Year's Eve but this is going to be some test.

Good luck with it mate. Seems strange me of all people giving advice but don't let the guard down mate. If you want to continue alcohol free (and you have done a fecking amazing job so far) then go for it mate.

I wish I had half the willpower and balls you do when it comes to the evil nectar

Hope all is well with everyone else. I mailed you Drab mate, not sure if my mail is working very well though (or you are ignoring me as Leeds lost their 15 point appeal)

Had a few mates around so had about 7 pints. Going out for the football tomorrow as it is our Wembley send off. I knew this weekend was going to be messy so I put it down to experience

^ I broke within a week, I went for a carvery and the missus drove and a pint just went down so easily! Binge-drinking I have no problem knocking on the head, I hate binge-drinking, but I guess I like a good pint here and there!

It is all about moderation mate. I was drinking pints of water in between my cans last night and drank slowly but had a good night. Got to clear up all the mess now mind you which I am not looking forward to

I mailed you Drab mate

I did get it thanks mate, wanted to hold off on replying until there was some actual progress to report!

Had another full day off drink yesterday. Feel pretty good today. Strange what one night's sleep not intoxicated can do to you lol

I have to admit to something though. The post from last week where I said I thought I'd managed to have the day off - that failed at the last minute – I got to 11.30pm and cracked and ran off to the pub where I spent £40 on the same amount of drink I could have had for under a tenner at the supermarket! Deary me

Anyway onwards and upwards from now on. Yesterday was a good day

Hope everyone else is doing well!

lol. I'm not making light of that but, well, lol.

I swear drinking in a pub seems mentally more "legitimate" than buying stuff from a supermarket and drinking it at home.
