The nervous system controls the firing of the muscle tissue, if smaller muscle groups involved in the joint stability are having problems it will actually switch off the large muscle to defend the body against injury. Hammering away with the same movement (even at lower weight and better form) you are not training the smaller ones as efficiently as you could, they are your strength and function bottle neck as it were, train them and your lifting will improve. A close analogy is the use of assistance exercises in power lifting. |
