I am working hard on stripping fat but maintaining my size... I weigh 115 kilos and am doing ok strength wise (benching 100ks) I am doing CV work on different days or after a weights session to get down to 110 kilos. Anyway I am keen to widen my back and work a lot on the pulldown machine but it is getting boring... I hear chin ups are great but I cant seem to do more than one! any tips on how to build on this and not look like a dork when you step to the pull up machine!?!

do em at home, btw you wanna do pullups for back chinups are biceps, chinups are with your palms facing you pullups opposite, start wuth one at home if you can, then take a 20 sec break and do another, keep doing this for as long as you can, maybe 30 times, this is how i started and now i just build it up, i can now do 15, goood luck pullups are a fantastic exercise for your back mate good luck with them

If you are after a big back doing 4x8 on a pulldown machine is going to be better than doing alot of 20x1's on a chin up bar. You can do assisted chins at the gym if they have the machine or with a exercise band which will take alot of your weight. Cable pulldowns are similar to actual chins as apposed to machine pulldowns. Try and add a little weight every week. Neg-A-Tives = Are basicaly starting at the top of the bar in pull up position and slowly dropping down to a chin up strting possition.

Try these mate. You can work up to adding weight in your lap as you get stronger. They helped me alot w/ overall back development. http://youtube.com/watch?v=j67qilevp9E

I have found chin ups to be a waste of effort. My biceps do most of the work and are usually the first to fail, so I never feel like I really work my back doing cins

I was doing unweighted pullups, but with correct form I've had to go back to assisted. I was told I was doing the movement far too fast for a start, with my arms too far in front of my torso; need to keep chest forward throughout the movement so that arms stay in line with the body, and not lose the tension in the back at the top of the movement by dropping out of it, but control it back down. Also need to keep core tensed throughout the movement. When you get it right, you feel it in the back; although biceps still kill as well. Chris
