All these people saying we don't know how it feels to be out of shape... well excuse me but you are all narrow minded not us.

Who can you know what we have been through in the past? See pic below... this was me 10 years ago when I was taking too many drugs, not eating, very stressed and no exercise.
And all I needed to be told was I would look good naked??? Get real. I was ill, I needed help with my diet and needed some exercise - just like most people.
My baby son was in better shape than me FFS.
Just because we all don't bleat on about how we struggle to eat or not to eat doesn't mean you guys can pressume we no nothing.

I used to be very thin and it would have been just the same if I was fat, telling me I looked good naked is bullsh!t.
I looked bloody terrible, why do we need to tell people they look OK?
They need to sort themselves out for there own good and THAT is what should be incouraged.

There is a place for bigging people up who have complex medical cases but these people are few and far between... but as said for these people the program is probably warrented in a way.
This prog treat EVERYONE the same way.
I notice it's lot's of the nutritional proffesionals with this veiw... just like a mechanic who works at ford dealing with ford problems all day thinks they are more comman on just fords but they are not.

The majorty of us in this thread are all saying the same thing yet we area wrong???

Normally people are fat or thin due to a bad diet and lack of exercise - remember we on MT spend a lot of time in gyms and SEE this stuff and good results all the time, we are not basing our thoughts on pure predudice against fat or thin people like some of you are trying to make out.

I leave this thead feeling angry too that my vaild opinions as a loyal MT member and those of other long standing members too are being shuned.

telling someone who is overweight or a strange shape etc that they look great is just building them up for a fall imo

As a nation I think we need to stop trying to make fat people feel better.
The job they did of her hair, clothes and make-up was great - I am not knocking that side of things at all.
Reguarding there bodies though, it gives them un-warrented self-esteem.
It's like they make it look like it's OK to be fat.

That sort of thing only has a place with people with medical probs that make it much harder to loose weight OR the people who are really trying to loose weight already.
She should really have been encoraged to take a hard look at how she had ended up (people have valid reason's so not saying it's anything to be ashamed of either... just no proud of) and helped to work on loosing the extra pounds IMO.

I think it is ok to be fat. Or skinny. Or whatever

That gok wan is a reet cnut you know. I read in the paper about how he called a group of women during the making of one of the progs "slags" and who*es". Also made rude gestures about one of the womens private parts.

His reply was "i'm famous so I can do what the fu*k I want".

The paper also reported about the pervy camera crews bursting in on the women while they were changing and filming them stark naked, when they had no permission to. While this happened everyone else on the show were just laughing at the women.

So Gok looks like some really cuddly guy who all women like, but in reality him and the rest of the crew are just a bunch of to**ers.

I don't shun your views at all mate

I just don't agree, personally. I've known too many types of people to be bothered whether someone is fat or thin

Also I'm not prepared to tell someone they look sh't. Has anyone here ever seen me post in a progress picture thread with negative comments? No. Likewise I'm not going to be negative to people in person either. If they are fat or thin or whatever, I don't know why, and it's not my place to judge. Also, I really just don't care!

These are just my views mind

Anyway, as for the program, it's a fashion thing so I've only watched one episode. Thought it was alright as these things go. In other words it wasn't my scene lol

I think the big difference is that fat people are abused, insulted and degraded every day of their lives. Most folks seem to think it's perfectly reasonable and acceptable to express open hatred towards fat people - fat women especially.

The women who take part in this programme have probably been at the sharp end of everyday prejudice for a good chunk of their lives. Their self-esteem is understandably nil.

OK, maybe you find overweight women repulsive and their existence offends you. Surely that's your problem, not theirs?

I don't see the big deal in a bit of fairly light-hearted telly that aims to lift the spirits of a group of people who are shat-on daily.

well i don't mind admitting that i'm fattist, i don't have a problem with people who have a medical condition, i don't have a problem with people who are happy being overweight/fat. What annoys the hell outta me is the people who are oveweight and complain about it all the time whilst doing nothing about it. Or the people who claim they are doing everything they can to lose weight and its not working, well thats just bull anybody can lose weight for some it may take longer than others but its just a numbers game. I was in the gym the other day on the x-trainer and there was an overweight woman next to me on another one, she was on the phone on level one going at a snails pace, 25 mins she was doing this chatting away to a friend. Now she struck me as the type of person that will look in the mirror or stand on the scales and think oooh why aren't i losing weight i go to the gym and everything. I honestly felt like asking her what the point in her being there was she might as well save her money and go for a walk.

Before i get berrated for my views if i see an overweight person in the gym working hard sweating like mad then i have more respect for them than the toned fit person as it does take guts to go to the gym when your overweight.

johnovmanc, most peed off post from you I've ever read mate. I don't think those of us who are trying to stick up for the women on the program are knocking every other member but some of the comments in this post are cringeworthy.

This also applies to a 6'3 EX 10 Stone 18 year old - Namely myself! I got all kinds of trash talk for being skinny. Still, I decided to gym it up and now im sat at 15stone 7 and look alot better for it.

My point is that it swings both ways as JohnofManc has pointed out.

Beauty is just a light switch away
lmao first time i heard that mate, very funny

My ex use to hate it when we were laid in bed with the lights off and id say -

" You look so beautiful in this light ...... "
lol nasty man
i think the program is good for a few reasons,
other women see these girls "cuddly" and may realise its not all about being thin,
all it takes is the right frame of mind, and if it helps the larger ladies( btw i love them large ) see other ladies being confident,it can only be a good thing imo.

Yes james lets make the forum even more pc than it already is,lets not allow members on a message board to give an honest truthful opinion of what they really think.

The program is called how to look good naked and the ladys who appear on it are unhappy because they are overweight/fat and they realise it.

tbh mate, i would like to know who says what looks good and what doesnt look good, imo some people look a lot healthier when carrying a little excess weight,
i like ladies who are a little over weight personaly, but i despise people who are against fat at all costs and seem to think its ok to take the pee all the time, and be rude about it whenever they get the slightese opportunity
imo the program is geared at "real" people, and it makes a nice change to see realism.

People tend to judge people based on their own appearance. They put down people less fit/attractive than them.Maybe it masks their own insecurities.Damn wrong if you ask me.

Many people do not care what they look like,or what other people think of them. But i think it's wrong to knock overweight people who want to feel better about themselves and gain confidence, which is what this programme tries to achieve.

MT is as PC as it always has been, a level which I felt you, as one of our most loyal members here, enjoyed.

I respond to posts within a topic in turn. This generally means my comment may not be in response to the OP. My former posts were, as highlighted, in response to TF. The post you highlighted was in response to Integra, period. Infact some of your oringal posts comments, I do not disagree with. I do however disagree with some others' comment. There's this attitude on MT where people feel because they exericse, they're better than everyone else. MT welcomes overweight people and incorrect prejudice (yes, 'incorrect' - I used that word intentionally) is not welcome. Generalisations are not welcome, but to no greater extent than they ever have been. MT is a health and fitness forum, let's welcome all.

I will continue to attempt to stamp out people who generalise against overweight and are simply wrong. If people do nto know what they are talking about, they should shut up.

Trebor, anyone else I probably wouldn't be annoyed, but I had you down as a supporter of the way we ran things. So I apologise for this.

Trebor. Members are allowed to say what they feel but it how they say it that's the issue in my view. I see no reason for these sort of words

quote:

quote:

There was this fat beast on it and i kept saying that this you be made illegal its on before the watershed and there must be children all across the country running out the room crying and having nightmares night after night that this big fat howk was going to come and eat them!!

When the same could have been said more constructively like this

quote:

I don't think that blind confidence is something to be inspired.

You should be confident, because you know something that inspires you with confidence, that is TRUE.

If you don't look good naked....for whatever reason....believing you do is just silly.

If a person can't face reality, what hope have they for life in general?

Being out of shape = you don't look as good as someone who's in shape, when naked.

I think there's far too much talk about how society has placed unacceptable body images on women - when i think in general, the reverse is true. So much of society DOESN'T expect women to be in shape now, that it actively discourages women from doing anything about:

- eating badly
- not working out

Herein lies the change. The join date beneath my avatar is symbolic of times when MT was touted as a bodybuilding forum.

I have stayed with MT as (despite my lack of postings and MT fame) I like to read the posts and still enjoy the content. Though the shift is noticible and is highlighted more than ever in this thread. Im not slating the shift, Im just merely pointing out that some of the people that have quite strong views in here are from the Bodybuilding MT era.
