Fair comment. We're still primarily BBing though (and don't forget that's my personal interest). And just coz they are from the BBing era, doesn't make them experts on the mind set of overweight people.

No, but it does mean (as I think he was refering to) that they are bound to hold prejudice against overwiegth people....due to them not understanding or excepting that life style. same as most 'normal' people cannot understand the Bodybuliding Lifestyle and consequently hold prejudice's aginst it. Thats just my 2 pence

ORIGINAL: TREBOR Yes james lets make the forum even more pc than it already is,lets not allow members on a message board to give an honest truthful opinion of what they really think. The program is called how to look good naked and the ladys who appear on it are unhappy because they are overweight/fat and they realise it. MT is as PC as it always has been, a level which I felt you, as one of our most loyal members here, enjoyed. I respond to posts within a topic in turn. This generally means my comment may not be in response to the OP. My former posts were, as highlighted, in response to TF. The post you highlighted was in response to Integra, period. Infact some of your oringal posts comments, I do not disagree with. I do however disagree with some others' comment. There's this attitude on MT where people feel because they exericse, they're better than everyone else. MT welcomes overweight people and incorrect prejudice (yes, 'incorrect' - I used that word intentionally) is not welcome. Generalisations are not welcome, but to no greater extent than they ever have been. MT is a health and fitness forum, let's welcome all. I will continue to attempt to stamp out people who generalise against overweight and are simply wrong. If people do nto know what they are talking about, they should shut up. Trebor, anyone else I probably wouldn't be annoyed, but I had you down as a supporter of the way we ran things. So I apologise for this. James i logged on late last night hoping to chill out a bit before bed i was p1ssed off and chewed after a crap day at work. I don't know why but your comment struck a nerve, ive reread this now and i don't really know why it did. About a week ago i wrote a thread out about the flamming, lecturing and fake political correctness that seems to be about on the board atm but decided to delete it,the gist was there seems to be a lot of threads were a question is asked in the correct forum and the OP gets flammed or lectured at or even asked to justify there actions, the supplement/aas/oped forums mainly, also there now seems to be some in the general forum who troll about picking out comments in threads and then playing the pc card and it seems to be just to bait members. I apologise james i totally misinterpreted your comment when i read it last night it seemed to be another example of members being gagged for being honest but i do understand where your coming from, the board has always been run and modded fairly. Kitty totally agree there's no need for those sort of comments. This thread was not to knock overweight women it was about this guy giving them a false sense of confidence,as i said what happens when the cameras and praise are gone and they look at themselves naked in the mirror the body they hated before is still going to be the same.

The only thing I can add to this thread is if you can give a woman confidence, then she is more likely to feel positive about herself. A more positive person (man or woman for that matter!) will be more likely to make positive moves (if thats what they want) and make some effort to shift the weight (if that is their goal). Call someone fat and ugly, all they will do is shrink away and more than likely eat and drink to comfort themselves and they are back into the cycle of eating because they sad, and sad because they are eating.

ORIGINAL: Dick Dastardly the thing i hate about this show is it tells overweight women the way to look good is to buy some new clothes and go to a beauticians, or get a photo taken with some airbrushing. How about oh i dunno going on a diet, eating a salad from time to time and going to the gym. Too much like hard work....

Thats exactly what the ex husband of my wifes best mate called her before he left her for another women, she now looks amazing goes to the gym and swims several times a week. I was very overweight as a kid and being laughed at by my mothers next door neighbour and told i had bigger boobs than she did which was very hurtful at 11 years old was what made me start to exercise.

I think your response to the insults is not unique, but it is fairly unusual. For most overweight folk, taunting, bullying, harassment and abuse do not motivate them to diet, go to the gym or anything to that end. In fact, quite the contrary. The misery they produce saps their motivation and provokes comfort eating. In any case I'd take issue with the implication here that the abuse is somehow warranted. That it's good thing if it motivates someone to change their body. What if a fat person really doesn't care about being thin? What if they've learned to love themselves and be content and just enjoy their life eating cakes and drinking beer? Why should they be subjected to abuse?

How do you know that john? do ginger, hairy, bald, blonde, skinny, short, tall people also turn into gibbering wrecks when taunted or mocked? In any case I'd take issue with the implication here that the abuse is somehow warranted. That it's good thing if it motivates someone to change their body. I never said it was warrented What if a fat person really doesn't care about being thin? What if they've learned to love themselves and be content and just enjoy their life eating cakes and drinking beer? Why should they be subjected to abuse? If there happy then they won't care what anyone else thinks, your right they shouldn't be subjected to abuse but its a fact of life that will never go away, some people do feel justified in commenting on the apperance of others just look at some of the harsh nasty comments that strangely have gone unchallenged in the jodie marsh thread
