Alright people, im looking at buying a new pc in the next week or two, all the pc's im looking at are now coming with Windows Vista installed, I have heard though that there is loads of problems with Vista....

Have the problems with Vista been rectified or should I spend a little bit extra and go for a pc package with XP pro ????

Any input would be appreciated, thanks people

Rectified?
No chance matey.
Micros0ft uses the unsuspecting public to act as beta testers and send in bug reports.

I'm sticking with XP until Vista is a lot more stable and compatible with drivers.

My housemate has Windows Vista on his laptop and seems quite happy with it

I like XP because it's more clean, much much lighter and does less stuff behind your back.

Vista looks pretty and has some good features but overall it's just eye candy.

Go for Vista m8, the sp1 is out, helps to eliminate some of the bugs

Personally i think its far better than xp, some cleaner features, easier to use, overall go for it!!

If Vista get a pc with 2 gig of ram, will be real quick and need that much to run it smoothly thou im on 1 gig and seems ok on mine.

Don't bother getting 4gig of ram though, as Vista will only recognise 3.

Out of interest, could wrapping oneself in black plastic bin liners so that it's tight against your skin like a rubber/pvc dress, be classed as crossdressing?

I agree with this.

I'm using Vista now and have been since Christmas. I hated it initially but its grown on me now, not had any compatibilty issues at all. I don't like it because it takes control away from you, you have to constantly tell it "yes I did mean to delete that/change that/etc". Its cack, but its no more cack than XP, NT, 2000, 98, ME, 95, et al. were.

This is the spec I'm running it at, just for info:

I bought my PC from a local shop and the lads there said they were advising everyone to steer clear of Vista due to the amount of problems they had seen. Ibought a 64x2 6000 with 3 gig of ram and he said it would make no difference and I would soon be back for a copy of XP if I bought Vista.

Anyone who says vista doesnt work is talking rubbish i have been running it since launch and have had no problems and imo it is vastly better than xp. Some people may have had problems with vista but with service pack 1 most of the bugs will be eliminated. Having said that if you dont download rubbish go on dodgy websites the bug thing wont even be an issue.

i dont download anything on this machine.

some facts about the bugs:

1; vista wont boot the machine up if the wacom is plugged in
2; vista will crash and freeze occascionally when the usb hdd is left plugged in
3; vista randomly shuts down when you close the lid instead of going into sleep mode.
3; vista does not work well with my omega vinyl cutter where as xp worked perfectly.
4; vista doesnt like many games.
5; vista has issues STILL with ftp programs and 3rd party visus software.
6; old versions of autodesk software do not like to work with vista.
7; issues with IE in vista (mainly tabs etc)

i have installed SP1 and it has made no difference to the above issues.

What hardware are you running? if you have premium and running less than 1gb it is enevitable. But if you have a gig or over your problems will be fixed easily.
