Being that it's aim is usually to belittle or hurt someones feelings, and to make oneself feel superior at another persons expense? Are you sarcastic, if so, in what context or situations do you find yourself becoming sarcastic? Your thoughts please.

Being sarcastic is too easy. It's just annoying to be honest! Saying that, I only hear teenagers retorting with sarcasm these days.

That's not the usual aim of sarcasm in my experience It's as often used in a self-deprecating or otherwise inoffensive manner as in the ways you have described And I wouldn't say it's the lowest form of wit - it can be clever and funny (edit to make the last sentence make sense lol)

What's the difference between sarcasm and irony? I often hear people being sarcastic and use "I'm being ironic" as a get out... I agree with Drab, if someone who intellegent uses sarcasm it can be very funny. Especially when dry and the intended victim doesn't that the other person is taking the mick. JohnKerr2 is prime example.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. I agree though, sarcasm can be clever and funny.

ORIGINAL: Lambrum JohnKerr2 is prime example. Yes, but JohnKerr2 can be quite hurtful with his use of sarcasm. Not to me (at least not that i've noticed ) but to others most definately. I do think that when someone is making what is to them at least, a serious point, the response should be in a similar tone. To be sarcastic in such a situation is at best unkind, and at worst simply someone attempting to feed their ego at the expense of another persons point of view.

I wonder what Wilde meant by that quote? He could mean that it's the least funny, or he could mean that it has the least class; or he could mean the opposite of either.

Surely something is either funny or not. I never realized that there were different forms of wit, nor did I realize that they had heights
