150k x 6 x 4 is easy IMO with a few years under your belt, I do it without spotters and i'm not huge by any means. Highest i've seen 180k by a chap in my gym. If I can get a decent spotter about, i'm gonna try a 1RM of 165k soon.

Not sure about 'easy' and a 'few years' being strictly true.

In gyms I have seen F all heavy benching. Think 180 would be highest and have seen plenty of people repping 140 but not much else.

At 18 stone 160kg should be easy for a serious trainer.

Well i've been training since I was 20ish and i'm 27. Properly trained with a sorted diet for 3-4 years now. In the last 2-3 years strength has gone up and up. Consistancy is key IMO and training enough - IMO people dont train often enough with enough cals in their diet to support maximum growth. If you undertrain and under eat, progress by its nature will be slow. Obviously AAS helps!

No I meant in your 1rm attempt.

I would start at 160 to get a feel for it but I could see you pushing 180 or more if you can easily finish 150 x something x something (too lazy to scroll up again).

Yes you are!!

Don't agree one bit with your claim though. It's possible but definitely not easy otherwise we'd see far more people lifting 3 plates + for repss

If you ran a poll on here asking how many people at your gym can bench 140kg you'd get very few that could in relation to the number that couldn't.

To put it into context, of the 9 or so gyms I've been a member of, I've only seen one other person bench over 140kg (150kg 1RM on a Smith Machine), I've only seen one person bench 120kg and only a handful bench 2 plates.

So easy - defintely not.
Possible - yes.

Not really.

Certainly 160kg would be considered easy for a serious trainer at 117kg bodyweight.

Height, length of limbs, genetic predispositions etc.
All these factors have a large influence.

I met people who are good at pressing and useless at pulling and vice versa.

A 260k deadlift came to me without that much struggle, a bit of hard work but certainly not life or death. (Chalk actually made the big difference)
Last year, when I actually got serious about squatting for the first time in ages, I maxed out at 300k [a partial not A2G .
But the first 3 years training I couldn't get over 140 because of poor technique.

With benching, I had to really break my balls to get over 100k on the bench, was stuck there for years.
At one point not so long ago, I was able to mil press 130k but could only bench 140k for 1 rep despite being able to do bent over rows for sets of 6 @ 140k.

A defiency in my chest - possibly?
Poor technique - maybe?

Am I an exception to the rule - don't think so. Have a look around the site and there are lots of fellas with a great bench but a terrible squat or deadlift relative to their bench.

I don't think there's a direct correlation between weight gained and weight lifted.

That's like saying at 80kg you should be able to lift x, at 90kg you should be able to lift y, and so on.

Look at bigscottishbastard. 120kg in BW, deadlifts 282.5kg, squats 250kg, bench presses 120kg. Granted he doesn't train bench but quite clearly there isn't a big carryover of BW to bench strength.

On a personal note, my weight went up from 95 to 108kg. My bench didn't increase proportionately. On this claim I think you're in the wrong, but I'm happy for you to prove otherwise.

Thought of another, I could do a set of 25 close grip chins without too much struggle, so you would assume my biceps are strong.

But I have great difficulty trying to do a straight bar curl with 60k, normally get about 3 reps at the most (which I'm sure most people would agree is a fairly low weight)

A lot of possibles there but does not really change anything.

A sub one and a half times bodyweight bench press should be pretty easy for a serious trainer at 117kg.
