If it's rump you like then supermarkets are a gamble and I'd go to a butcher, but personally I prefere sirloin or fillet and always get a bargain or 2 in the reduced sections in Tescos.... steak is better when it's browning off a bit TBH.

dont you find that buthcer's arent good quality though? and I couldnt be using sirloin/fillet as I have red meat every day on my diet, would turn out a bit too expensive.

Just to hijack this thread slightly, how important is red meat to the bodybuilder, my diet really is lacking it at the moment. Do you have it every day or is every other day ok ?

You want to save more money..? Find a small time hobby farmer in the country, buy a quarter of beef, bring it to a small time butcher. You get grass/hay fed organic beef. Cheaper and HEALTHIER than any steroid loaded supermarket beef.

i've made beef a few times, far too chewy for my liking even when i cook it each side for the minimum amount of time.

Most major cities in the UK will have a market day regularly- ,maybe once a month at least. I buy my meat and eggs from a local butcher who gives me good deals based on my rep as a loyal customer; most cities will have a market selling cheap eggs if you can be arsed searching for it: i found mine and i'm totally happy- can get 12 massive free range organic duck eggs for £2 and HUGE free range goose eggs for £1- amazing value imo
