1)When applying for a job, some companies will say you cannot have or have had certain illnesses e.g a fireman and asthma.

If you deny you had asthma in the past for instance, would they do a check up on your doctors notes anyway

2) I am putting off going to the doctor about a small problem i may have, because i dont want it showing up if my future employers want to do a background check as it may go against me...is there any way i can see a doctor without him putting it on my medical record?

PAGAN -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:16:26)

I mentioned my drug usage to a doctor once and asked him not to make a record of it , he said he hadn't. Saying that I didn't require any treatment , if I had things might have been different [&:]

no mate i dont think so ,especially not if he prescibes medication.

jess1eb -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:17:55)

Depends what it is, and what jobs it might effect, could you turn up as the hospital claiming to be someone else?...not that thats a good idea. Could go to see them about something else then just drop the real thing in and hope they dont record it.

Dwarfenegger -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:23:27)

If you've got something up with you, go the Doctors man...

Soni -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:26:51)

I think the doctor has a duty of care to both yourself and the company that has requested it to disclose all information that may effect you in the job that you are applying for....

I may be wrong...

But, lets say it was a fireman you wanted to be, and you did have Asthma, if he didn't disclose it within the report, you are accepted into the fire brigade, you are in a bad warehouse fire, you could end up passing out and worse even being killed, together with the rest of your squaddies that try and rescue you....

Sometimes things are meant to be for a reason, and i consider medical records for employment applications very very important indeed.....

trixta -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:26:53)

ime if you tell em nothing on the application form it doesnt go any further(not in the case of forces etc).if you do,then theres all sorts of possibilities.

muscleman2008 -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:27:20)

you can be a fireman and have asthma btw. Medical history should only affect a few jobs such as fighter pilot.

without being specific mate,any mental illness/medication will rule you out of anywhere except the foreign legion service wise ime,may be better off just buying some anti d's from an online pharmacy after a consult with a g.p.

muscleman2008 -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:43:56)

I shouldnt think that will affect anything in fact some employers would prefer to know that you have had that sort of prblem treated rather than being lumbered with someone who is depressed and takes six months off.

G 3 A R -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:50:01)

been ill three times in my life.

muscleman2008 -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:51:53)

if people can get jobs with criminal records you can get a job with an illness. I have got mental health issues down on my medical history and i am employed.

wow

hard

trixta -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 22:55:21)

if your thinking of the forces/services,have a consult with your g.p,get some advice but walk away and do as ive said above.i know thats not the straightest way,but once you have had mood/mind altering/numbing whatever medication,they will class you as unstable or similar,no fire service,no army,navy etc.if youre going to a civilian job,its a minefield,as theres a million things that can affect your health or you being'ill'can affect.

EDIT-some employers will take you on to get their 'disability'quota,nhs,big firms etc,and some may just be good natured,but theyre few and far ime.

2 the max -> RE: Your medical history (Apr. 17 2008 23:00:27)

thanks for the advice
