what stance do you use? shoulder?? sumo??? and whats your height? do you think height determines your best standing position? do you use the same stance for squats and dead or diffrent? this is for strength and powerlifters, cause i no bb's use diffrent stances to hit diffrent muscles. which stance do ru most comfortable in?

Me? All of them. It depends on why yo are training. BB'ing and PL'ing are both sports. Sport as you know is about scoring better than the other guy not developing your body to be 'fittest'. If fitness concerns you you will do a variety with the biggest range of motion that is safe for you. If it's sport orientated then you will do you primary lifts and train around these to increase function or develop the qulity you are after (PL'ing: ability to do that lift/BB'ing: muscle mass) Also, it should be mentioned that whilst hight is important leg, torso and arm length are huge players here. Not an answer I know.......

Personally I use an approx 'just wider' than shoulder stance for my unequipped squating and approx shoulder width for my deadlift. Off course the relative width of your shoulders compared to hips will mean potential differences in set up, even when people use the same cues. I do not use these types of cues when setting up to lift my set up. My feet go were they need to go based on practice.

Varies according to rep range Whenever I'mk teaching squats and deads I never prescribe stance too strictly. Two seemingly identical physiques can find squatting comfortable in totally different ways, everyone's different. just persevering with trial and error will pay off.

I just go with what I feel comfortable. I dont have that great flexability, but some positions I probably would still struggle with even if flexability improved. Stance - Squat (back or front) - wider stance, feet outwards a bit (wider then shoulder width) / Deadlift - closer stance, feet almost straight (closer than shoulder width) Height - 5'8" I think height plays a factor, but size and length of other body parts are probably more important.

I pretty much agree with everything funmeter said. What you are comfortable with is first and foremost. For Squatting I use a slightly wider that shoulder width stance, feet at the "five to one" position Deadlift as narrow as I can get away with. The closer the hands are the less you have to bend, this brings the feet in as the hands go on the outside of the feet. Again the "five to one" foot position. Height 5 feet 9, weight 21 stone, chest 56" but waist 46" all of these matter. The larger waisted gentlemen generally have squat depth issues, the wider the legs the more chance of the belly dropping through the middle of them, thus avoiding belly to thigh contact. Many things to consider, trial and error really, go with what "feels" right

5' 10" For deadlifts I currently use the sumo stance, but not too wide For squats, a stance just outside shoulder width

do you's think a wider stance is easier on your lower back? iv always though taller guy would be better to sumo deadlift and squat so the distance to travel is shorter??? but saying that it would be the same for a shorter guy. im 6ft2" and when i was squating i found i could lift more with a wider stance, i felt like i could use my hams and glutes better when going wider, i think this would be the same when i start deadlifting?

Height 5'11 I've recently switched to sumo deadlifting (feet about 2" from the plates each side). Squatting has always been fairly wide (as wide as my rack allows).
