Until June 1st , o2 are offering the iPhone at £169 (£100 off) clearing the way for the 3G iphone no doubt http://shop.o2.co.uk/promo/iphonekeyfeatures A real bargain IMO (although I am biased , admittedly ) - I have just bought an MDA Vario III , and although it is an amazing phone it still doesn't hold a candle to the iPhone , but then we all like different things) There are free unlocking solutions around , and some "paid for" ones that make it easy for you and hold your hand for you through the process - So you could walk into an o2 shop , buy the phone for £169 , (no contract necessary ! ) - and then unlock/activate it for free (or WCS pay £22.50 for the easy software to do this ) and there you have a SIM free iPhone ! This prices the 8GB iphone BELOW the 8GB Touch , and lower that the iPhones on ebay too !

I'm sure Dr Z was on it the other night needing an iPhone removing from a special place.... heh If it didn't have the contract, I'd be damn tempted to be fair (but 3G ones are just round the corner as you say..)

LOL ! Yes , I do have a very special relationship with my iPhone WRT Contracts - NO ! this is the beauty of the unique way the iPhone is sold - You simply walk in , buy your iPhone (must be on a Credit /Debit card , this is to ensure you are likely to pass a credit check ) - Then , of course o2 expect you to go home and obediently set up an 18 month contract with them , BUT - instead , you (perfectly legally) don't take up their kind offer , and unlock/activate YOUR iPhone using the software from the net , meaning your £169 has gotten you a PAYG iPhone The only downside is you forefit any kind of support from Apple (as you have broken the EULA) - but TBH the support available on the net is very comprehensive , I suppose there is a small risk that you have no warranty on the phone , but thats the price you pay I suppose Muscleman2008 - I have no experience in unlocking & Jailbreaking (I have kept mine as Apple intended !) but a few mates have done theirs and they recommend this site http://www.iphoneunlocking.org.uk/

Gonna get one on pay day! Best thing is, if you buy instore, buy the fone and walk with the o2 contract and carefully place it in the bin, just down the road from the shop. You dont have to sign the contract. Only thing is, you cant do updates...

If you make it into a PAYG phone how does that affect the internet access and do you 'pay' for that on your payg

Didn't Apple send out an update that disabled all the unlocked I-phones or was that just a nasty rumour? What's to stop them doing that?

Its got inbuilt wifi so if you have wireless at home or at work it is free but if you are out and about i imagine the internet is expensive. Im going to go on one of them o2 simplicity contracts and maybe get the data upgrade or something similar.
