Just a quickie people as I'm supposed to be working

My dad has had sky + for around 2 years...paid £199 for it originally.

For the past 12 months it's not worked but he doesn't watch much telly so he did nothing about it.

They have now bought a new pc and want broadband. He's trying to get it through sky and is trying to get a new sky + box at the same time.

They are saying it'll be £99 for a new box and £60 installation????

We just introduced my mother in law and she got it all free plus £50 of M and S vouchers!!!!

Is it worth my dad threatening to cancel to see if they give it him free? or is it worth him cancelling, then I introduce him as a new customer next week to see if they give him the same deal my mum in law had?

Anyone with any experience?

It may have been on this forum or another I read but the best thing you can do is call on a weds afternoon/thursday morning and threaten to cancel. This is apparently because the cancellations team get a number of "incentives" they can offer customers who are cancelling. Each call centre person gets a set amount which they have to spread throughout the week. By Wed/Thu they are usually more keen to hand them out as it is nearing the end of the week.

Sky tend to be very flexible when it comes to folk wanting to cancel.

If he does call to cancel what is the worse thing that can happen. They cancel his contract.

If he doesnt watch TV that much then it will be no big drama. Leave it a month or so and sign up to a new contract.

emm i would ring their customer care department, he will prolly have to pay for a new box, but i cant see why they are gonna charge him a installation fee. And i think if he canceled then got refered he is still gonna be on their system so he isnt classed as a new customer. (I think)

Just a quick note if your dad has a partner get the new contract in her name. As I believe they sometimes ask if you have had sky in your name in the last 12 months and if you have they wont give you the "new customer" benefits.

Oakham Mate, so technically it's Rutland.

Its always worth a try. Like I said if people arent happy and they have seen out their minimum contract time then give it a whirl.

I found this on moneysaving

I knew I'd read it somewhere about the offers.
