Here's a thought.

Am I right in thinking that the audience at bodybuilding competitions do not see the scores the judges award competitors for each of the rounds?

Wouldn't the whole event be far more interesting and exciting (and popular) if the judges had to hold up their score-cards for the audience? (c.f. Olympic high-diving, etc.).

(Brain-fart for the morning).

Like hold up a board in each hand, with marks out of 10? Like in diving?

Just like.

Or perhaps with this being the 21st Century and all there could be some electronic-digital-readout gubbins.

I like the idea but it's not practical. Have you seen a show? During prejudging, all competitors are on stage together so it could be pretty hard to show cards for up to 20 different competitors at once. It would work for the evening show but again the competitors are not given a score out of 10 but scored in ranking order and the one with the lowest number (ie most highest placings) wins. Good concept though.

I suspect it would only work at the evening event.

It's clear that the Olympics makes armchair specialists out of all sorts of unlikely people and part of the pleasure I suppose is developing a conception of which elements of performance are reflected in scores.

I admit I've never been to a bodybuilding show. I can't help thinking that I'd be pretty bored and that I've not no real sense of how the judges discern between what appear to me to be quite subtle differences in appearance. I'm sure it's highly skilled and beyond reproach.

I just thought it might be a speck more fun if you're sat there thinking, well I give his double-back-biceps a 7.3; what will the judges give it? etc.

My hubbie who gets bored at comps does a similar thing but he guesses who the top three should be. He's usually right too.
