I want to start burning fat, im at 10.8% bodyfat but got a bit of a gut on me and a fat backside.

Would it be wise if I do HIIT 1st thing in the morning for 20minutes and drink a protein shake to make sure I dont start burning muscle?

If I do this 3x a week will this be ok on top of weight training.

Reason being since eating so much Ive found myself alot more sluggish playing football and generally just feel more slobbish.

Not sleeping no where near as good as I used to do, when I used to do marathon training.

If you have a fat arse and a gut you won't be 10% BF - you would have some visibility of your abs.

I wouldn't do HIIT first thing in the morning - Steady state would be more appropriate IMO.

According to this website it says best time to burn fat is in the morning

http://www.muscleandstrength.com/articles/losing-body-fat-and-cutting-without-losing-muscle.html

http://www.universeofsuccess.com/the-best-way-to-burn-fat.html

The machine I went on must of been wrong then because it said I was 10.8% bodyfat

and no abs are visible and people have commented on how large my bottom is.

Only perform HIIT when you are adequently fuelled with carbs otherwise you will set your body burning other fuel sources like protein! So HIIT in the morning is ok provided you are adequently fuelled.

For the last couple of weeks I've upped my cardio sessions to AM unfuelled SS and PM HIIT in the same day - working wonders for me, abs are showing for the first time in my life - yey!

To be fair as everyones body is different he may well be at 10% body fat and not have his abs showing.

Although I agree perhaps not 10% with a gut and fat ass, but I used to be at around 10% bodyfat and only had the slightest glimpse of my top set of abs when I moved on a good day, although you could count the ribs down my side and see the definition on my legs etc

First thing in morning you would be better with 45 mins steady on a spin bike, or the such

Im doing it ATM and its effective.

I put my bike in the sitting room, hook up my xbox360 and cycle away. Depending on how intense the gaming is at the moment I do anything between 45mins to 2 hours without even thinking I'm working out
Excellent boredom-killer!

here we go... how did you come to the exact figure of 10.8%?
What makes you think you have thta figure when you contradict the above by saying you have a fat ass and a gut?

I change machines, do 20 mins on bike, then same on cross trainer then treadmill, helps break it uo and it seems to go quicker. An Ipod also helps!

What does your evening HIIT routine look like? Open to anyone who might wish to answer.

Can you really go all out on a crosstrainer?

Of course you can, all you need to do is get the HR right up there, i find it no problem at all.

I've never used one.

At the gym they always seemed to be getting used by middle aged plumpers who aren't going very fast.

I like your routine though, I might give it a go on the bike, and when I cut a little more I may even try it with sprinting.

Well I am going to do cardio as many mornings as posible on an empty stomach and see for myself if it is any good. Low intensity on bike reading the free daily mail. Not sure whether to have a high protien chockie after or some viper. Also want to use viper to keep me going at work.

If you do it first thing in the morning then apparently it uses up muscle as energy or something like that apparently.
