ORIGINAL: carl19 why dont you do the typical whey dextrose pwo? I have 30g of dext, 30g of malt and 30g whey impact from MP with some strawberry crusha what do you do instead? See above what is this decision based on? -Recommended by professionals who know far more than me. -Bumps up my protein intake. -Only 240kcals extra, id have the whey anyhow(Although does make cutting at 1800-1900kcals a bit more difficult!) -If the professionals are right, i gain. -If they are wrong, i gain more protein in my diet, the shake tastes nicer, i get my energy back in the trained body parts faster and then follow it up with a decent meal too. -Its also pretty cheap, so why not

I read a book about PWO Meals and based on their studies, majority of the people got better results without it. In short, the calories could be put in better use. This is according to studies.

Cribb et al. (2006) A good study and the only one that I am aware of that shows imrovments in body comp, muscle mass using peri supps as opposed to an identical intake not located around training. The supps used were; whey, carbs (carn't remember the type) and creatine over a 10 week treartment period (training+supps) study. As with these type of studies they are fraught with control issues, but it was a good bit of research, in the area. quote:

No. That is according to the book you read, which has interpretted the studies for you for, potentially, it's own agenda. I feel that food intake around training is important, but highly specific interventions are not.
