leerc -> selling a private registration plate (Apr. 18 2008 17:21:53)

how do you go about it and do you have to un register it from the vehicle the vehicle is going to either be scrapped or used for spares

Mark Thompson -> RE: selling a private registration plate (Apr. 18 2008 17:53:27)

the vehicle the plate is from must have a valid MOT. you have to then put the plate on retention. you can get the forms from the post office.

How do I sell my registration?

* If you want to sell your registration we suggest you approach a private dealer or advertise the registration for sale yourself. DVLA's sales scheme is confined to selling it's own previously unissued registrations. We do not endorse or recommend any particular individual or company.

How do I transfer my registration mark from one vehicle to another?

* To transfer a registration mark from one vehicle to another you will need to complete a V317 - Transfering a Vehicle Registration Number application form. The cost of transfer is £80.

How can I put my registration on hold when I decide to sell my car ?

* You will need to complete a V778/1 - Retention of a Vehicle Registration Number application form. The cost to retain a registration number is £105.
