did any of you deep squaters have to do any king of stretch when you 1st started out squating to go deep?
any innner thigh/ groin stretches etc??

iv just getting the starting strength ebook and there is a position/stretch which he says you should be able to get into with ease before starting heavy deep squats, and if you cant you should do the stretch till you can.

its basicly a squat at the bottom end and holding it at the bottom with your elbows touching your kneesand your hands together horizontal with the floor to get the correct stance and knees apart etc, back arched, head up, chest out etc etc.

he said alot of ppl will feel a stretch in there inner thigh, i get this so i will be stretching.

Not really. I just found out I was squating to a stupid depth and dropped the weight and went deeper. Having said that I would not call myself a 'deep' squatter really. I am no Oly lifter!

I stretch my hip flexors and groin by doing lunge like stretches prior to squating and deadlifting.

go for what you feel comfy with, but i would always try to go to at least parallel, i always go deep tho, you might as well get as much as you can from the exercise. i must admit tho i'm pretty flexible,i can do the splits and have always done leg stretches. But if you want some help improving your stretch, check these out,

Stone, I haven't read that book but have been doing that stretch as it's the only one that really hits the spot and lets me know when I'm flexible enough. I do use the arms to push the knees outwards and then hold that stretch for 15 or 20 seconds.

I have only recently started having issues with flexibility in the hips, but I do quite a few exercises for stretching various ligaments in the hip (not all related to squatting). By the way I don't deep squat, but am not advising against it.
