anyone drink lucozade during wo?
-
19 April 2008 20:01
anyone drink lucozade during wo? iv been getting the multipacks on special offer so a bottle works out at about £0.50p, its the fizzy lucozade. the carb/ during training drinks at my gym including the lucozade i drink are £1.50. do u use lucozade or would dextrose mixed in a bottle of water or juice be a better option? i think lucozade is glucose isnt it?? will the effects of the 2 make much diffrence?

Fast carbs are pretty much all equal especially where its for a peri workout drink. I'm pretty sure lucozade has glucose frutose syrup in it. This does not have a very good reputation, so I would proabably stick to a homemade one as you have described. I would add some electrolytes too.

i think electrolyte is a waste of money, from what i have read its more for marathon runners and people who sweat hugeamounts of salt etc that isn't really assosiated with weights? eletrolyte drink can be made at home, if you know the right percentage of water salt and sugar i don't remember

No huge point in electrolytes unless you are sweating alot. Best used if doing cardio but not really weights I wouldnt use Lucozade before/during any workout myself because of potential blood sugar fluctuations. My sessions are long lasting and i feel dizzy and my energy crashes. I have drunk Lucozade post workout though

they are the same. It means glucose equals dextrose(the same as)

Yeah i use lucozade to drink during my workout yeah i think its glucose, i also took advantage of the special lucozade sport offer int he supermarket i would rather drink this than a drink with dex or malto in it it would be more pleasant imo

Anyone who does not sweat when doing weights is not training hard enough! With the onset of summer this is only going to get worse unless you have a aircon gym.

Hi guys IIRC the problem with lucozade and other such sugar containing drinks is that your body carefully regulates your blood sugar level, so if you have an addition of fast release carbs the body releases insulin to counteract this and lowers blood sugar to a level lower than you started with. So then you feel tired and fatigued, this will only affect you if you have long gym sessions tho as it takes quite a while to kick in. Its called reactive hypoglycemia if I remember right.. I dont drink sugary containing drinks while training for this reason, but it may affect different people differently... HTH Sean

People that are afflicted by reactive hypo can get that from fast carbs. However it kicks in quickly if you have had nowt to eat and have an empty stomach or if you have a full stomach or even something in there reactive hypo may manifest in a different timeframe
