When not bulking i have mine with skim/milk, it helps slow the protein release down.
I think it comes down to your size and goals.

What kind of shake?

I usually have a little whey, a little bit more milk protein concentrate with a little water, wash down some fish oils before bed.

No, but you will move less and thus burn less calories, but not an immensly significant amount.

me too, - dont want to be waking up at 3am needing a slash

have cottage cheese or scrambled eggs before bed, and have shake ready in case you do wake up in the night... - in which case, down a shake and go back to sleep
