Hi all, I'm new to this forum and mainly looking at loosing body fat at present, this time last year I was about 16 stone alot of which was fat around the stomach with a little muscle mass underneath elsewhere, I came down ill however towards the end of 2007 and was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (the type not caused by lifestyle, comes about in children and young adulthood, type Steve Redgrave has I believe) in January this year, I started going to the gym again in February but then had an operation on my feet in March and ony started cardio again last week. My bodyfat was done at my last hospital check up and it was 14%, I'm exactly 6ft and about 11 stone and 19 years old. My diet at present is fairly varied as I'm eating mainly when I'm hungary which is not ideal, I can eat anything I want I just need to inject insuling to compensate the carbs I'm eating so don't need to cut anything out that a normal fully functioning body could eat. Breakfast - Porridge + 50g MPmax Whey Lunch - Varies but usually something like, mackeral, kippers, chicken along with, youghart, fruit and nut mix, banana Dinner - Varies again but usually boiled potatoes or charlotte potatoes with meat of some sort. I'm not overly interested in the eating 6 times a day as it would mean 6 small injections as apposed to 3 moderate size ones which seems alot less fussy. I don't really snack too much, all it would be if I do is a youghart and if I have a hypo I'd drink either a fun size can of full sugar coke followed by either a ceral bar/nuts/meal replacement bar. In the gym I've just started the cardio again as already said and will do about a 15 min run on the treadmill with varied radients throughout, and then another 15 mins on either bikes/cross ramps/cross trainer which is a struggle at the moment and I have to either eat, dextrose tablets/jelly babies or drink lucozade throughout to keep my sugar levels up and avoid passing out. I do weights before I do the cardio and train a different body part each time with a good rest inbetween training same part again, usually a week. I hope people might be able to help as my diabetic spealists I'm under at the hospital are not as clued up as some on here might be reguarding exercise, I've been told to cut out the supplements but was told someone without diabetes would be told the same so I've kept whey in, I've got a tub of creatine but haven't had any of it since being diagnosed, when would be the best time to do creatine ? As my body wouldn't have a natural insulin spike etc all my insulin would come from injections Many Thanks

I know that sticking needles in yourself is no fun (I had to inject hGH once a day for 6 months and that was bad enough), but regular small injections maintain a more steady BGL than 3 larger ones. Are you familiar with Richard K Bernstein MD? He works on the principle of "small inputs lead to small errors". As someone who trains, you obviously need a higher carb intake than a sedentary person like Bernstein, but you need to eat low-GI carbs to avoid wild upward swings in BGL and the inevitable large downward swings when you wrongly guesstimate your insulin requirements. That was good and very informational, many thanks. I tried 4 smaller meals today and that seemed alot better so I'll go straight for 6 meals tomorrow and see how that goes.
