I've been training for a while and my routine isnt very disciplined. Although i'm getting good strength gains, i'm not getting good size gains.

I've tried drop sets yesterday and they destroyed me :D ! It is only starting to hurt now and i could really feel it work. Loved it.

How do these work for size gains? Should i always do drop sets or just on one of the sets?

Thanks guys

I prefer to have people just do them on the last set on the main movement or more sets with and assistance exercise but either way yo don;t do them week in week out, jst for a few weeks. This stimulates the super compensation - muscle growth - which is supported by eating and recovering correctly.

They don't work in a vacuum

andre666 drop sets are intense but they hurt like hell which makes me feel as if ive done something in the gym, so i like them alot.

Apprantly used as a shock tactic for your body, dont know for sure from my experience if it works but you definitely feel it more than usual and i have great confidence in it, but it mustnt be abused.

use them sparingly as you will mentally hold back on your other sets.

Feeling the effects of a workout either during or days after the workout, although may give the impression you've worked hard, doesn't necessarlily mean you're going to have increased growth or strength from doing it.

If you were to take a weight half as light as you'd normally lift and do the exercise until complete failure, then have someone assist you through the concentric part of the lift so you finish with several negatives, you'd most likely feel it during the exercise and probably for a good few days afterwards.
Will it cause strength/size increases?
Unlikely.

Drop-sets should just be another tool in your arsenal to enable progression rather than a staple for building routines around.
