Hello guys how do you know when your glycogen stores are full? I mean if i now eat 200gr of pasta every two hours with a traditional job i.e office work so not consuming a lot of these in the day, wouldn't the glycogen stores be full by 2 or 4 o'clock? what if i eat 500gr of pasta at each meal would it just take longer to digest but then i'd get my glycogen stores full even quicker ? i don't want to have too much carbs as i'm eating about 90gr of whey powder at lunch but worrying this might convert to fat if glycogen stores are full and since im doing an office job hence not burning many cals and hour cheers

If bulking, aim to have total cals around 500 more than cals used to avoid excess fat gain. IMO, don't use whey anywhere apart from around training, it's too simple - eat a protein source. Glycogen stores are dependant on your size - I don't know the calculation. Once they are full, any carbs that are not used immediately for energy will be put down as fat. This means use wholemeal as much as poss for slower release (less likely to not be used), and time around training as much as poss. It would make sense to swap the 200g normal pasta for 200g wholemeal, not sure why you'd want to change amount? What else are you eating with it?

ORIGINAL: M_I_K_E Hello guys how do you know when your glycogen stores are full? You don't. You know when they're empty as you feel hungry and if you do any intense exercise, you get hypoglycaemia. Why do you need to know when they're full? Are you running a marathon?

Nige I was wondering would people on a ketogenic diet get hypoglycaemia if they done cardio with their glycogen stores being so depleted?

IIRC - if its any help for a 70kg 20/21 year old male its approx 400g intramuscular stores, and ~100g in the liver i think.

Why do you need to know when they're full? Are you running a marathon? no but i was wondering when ive eaten all day if at 2 ish when i haven't been very active i would still need some carbs or if these would be stored as fat i wasn't really expecting someone to give me the exact size of our stores lol but was wondering when you should ask yourself "should I be eating more carbs or will the be stored as fat" btw do carbs like white bread and weetabix spike your insulin much? they're relatively fast acting carbs but that wouldnt be as bad as pure glucose i suppose
